Talk to Achietties.

Talk to Achietties outside of the Heroes' Guild in Taverley and ask her about joining the guild. She will tell you that to join, you'll need to obtain three items: A Firebird's feather, a cooked Lava eel and a Master Thieves' Armband.

Firebird's Feather:

  1. To obtain a Firebird's feather, you'll need Ice gloves. These are held by the Ice Queen (level 77) found in the Ice dungeon beneath White Wolf Mountain. Make sure you have your best combat equipment and some food and then head west of Taverley to the mountain.

  2. Find the rock slide on the northwest part of the mountain (see map below for the path from the Heroes' Guild or Taverley lodestone) and right click it to mine and clear it. Once done, you will find three ladders. Climb down the south ladder.

    Rock slide

  3. You will now find yourself in the ice dungeon. Take the southwest path until you come to a ladder, climb up it and you will see two other ladders. Climb down the east one back into the dungeon and follow the tunnel around until you reach another ladder at a dead end. Climb up this ladder and then climb down the next ladder to find yourself in a large cavern. Walk a bit north and you'll see a number of level 54 Ice warriors and the Ice queen.

    Three ladders

  4. Attack and kill the Ice Queen and she will drop the Ice gloves. Teleport out or make your way back through the dungeon and head to Port Sarim.

Note: The easiest way to reach Port Sarim is via the Port Sarim lodestone home teleport or an Explorer's ring cabbageport.

    Ice Queen

  5. Once at Port Sarim, go to the northern dock and use the bank deposit box to store all of your items apart from the Ice gloves, and then talk to one of the Monks to travel to Entrana.

When you've arrived, leave the boat and make your way to the north side of the island. You should see the Entrana Fire Bird flying around west of the Law altar. Make sure you are wearing the Ice gloves and kill the bird (it only has 50 Life points, so using your fists isn't a problem). Once dead, it will drop a Fire feather for you to pick up.

Master Thieves' Armband:

Important Note: Completing this section of the quest requires another player from either the Phoenix or Black Arm Gang depending on which you joined during Shield of Arrav. If you require a partner for this quest, you can post in this topic to request some help. If you do not know which gang you are in, you can check the in-game quest log for Shield of Arrav to find out.

Black Arm Gang Member:

  1. Speak to Katrine in the Black Arm Gang's hideout in southwest Varrock and ask her about becoming a master thief. She will tell you to steal ScarFace Pete's Candlesticks, but you will need to get some ID papers first. She will also give you the password "Four leaf clover".

Note: The easiest way to reach the hideout is via the Varrock lodestone home teleport and then head northwest past Charlie the Tramp into the alley.

  2. Make sure you have a Black full helmet, Black platebody and Black platelegs, then make your way to Brimhaven and find the gang office northeast of the pub. Try to enter and Grubor will ask for the password. Tell him it and you'll be allowed to enter. Now talk to Trobert and he will give you the ID paper you need to get into ScarFace Pete's mansion.

Note: The easiest way to reach Brimhaven is via the Karamja lodestone home teleport or Amulet of Glory teleport to Musa Point and then walk west.

  3. With your Black armor equipped, try to enter ScarFace Pete's Mansion (the large building west of the Shrimp and Parrot pub) and you will be stopped by Garv. You must show him the ID paper and then he will let you in.

  4. Go talk to Grip and ask him "What do my duties involve?", then "Anything I can do now?". He will give you a Miscellaneous key which you now need to give to your Phoenix Gang partner. Once they have the key, wait for your partner to get into position (see below) and then go into the northeast room and search the cupboard on the wall. Grip will then come into the room to tell you to stop searching through his things, which allows your partner kill him from the room next door. Once he's dead, pick up his keys.

  5. Go to the Treasure room (the one with coins in the floor) and use Grip's keys on the door to enter. Search the chests to find two Candlesticks.

Note: You cannot take a candlestick from someone else because Katrine will know you didn't do the quest properly and will not give you the band.

  6. Now go back to Varrock and talk to Katrine again. She will give you the Master Thieves' Armband.

Phoenix Gang Member:

  1. Go to Varrock and speak to Straven in the Phoenix Gang hideout and ask him about becoming a master thief. He will tell you to steal ScarFace Pete's Candlesticks and that the Phoenix gang has associates in Brimhaven on Karamja. Their names are Charlie the cook and Alfonse the Waiter in the pub called the Shrimp and Parrot. He will also give you the password "Gherkin".

Note: The easiest way to reach the hideout is via the Varrock lodestone home teleport and then head northeast into the alley until you reach the hideout building marked by a dungeon symbol.

  2. Make sure you have a bow and some arrows, then head to Brimhaven and meet up with your Black Arm Gang partner. They should give you a Miscellaneous key.

Note: The easiest way to reach Brimhaven is via the Karamja lodestone home teleport or Amulet of Glory teleport to Musa Point and then walk west.

  3. Go to the Shrimp and Parrot pub (marked by a Food shop icon) and talk to Alfonse the Waiter. Ask him about gherkins and then go through the door into the kitchen. Talk to Charlie the Cook and he will tell you that there is a secret wall panel.

  4. Push the wall on the east side of the kitchen to access a yard with several Guard dogs. Open the door to the mansion and go inside.

  5. Once inside, use the Miscellaneous key on the door to the north to access the store room. Wait for your partner to lure Grip (level 22) into the room and then range him through the slot in the wall. Once he's dead, your partner should pick up his keys and obtain the Candlesticks. Meet up with them and have them give you one.

  6. Finally, go back to Straven in Varrock and give him the Candlestick and he will give you the Master Thieves' Armband.

Cooked Lava Eel:

  1. Go to Port Sarim and talk to Gerrant in the Fishing shop. Ask him about catching Lava eels and he will tell you how to make an Oily fishing rod and give you a bottle of Blamish snail slime.

Make a Harralander potion (unf) by using a Clean harralander with Vial of water, then use the unfinished potion with the bottle of snail slime to get Blamish oil. Use this oil on a regular Fishing rod to get an Oily fishing rod.

  2. To find the fishing spot for Lava eels, you need to go to Taverley Dungeon found south of Taverley bank (make sure you have your Oily rod and some Fishing bait!). If you have level 70 Agility, use the Obstacle pipe to the right of the entrance stairs and you will be in a cavern with level 74 Blue dragons. Run south until you come to a lava pool and skip to Step 3.

If you don't have 70 Agility, follow the red path on the map below through the dungeon until to find a small jail area. Kill the Jailer (level 56) and he will drop a key. Use the key with the jail cell containing Velrak the explorer ask him about places to explore. He will give you a Dusty key. Retrace your path back through the dungeon until you reach the green path on the map below and follow it to reach a locked Gate. Use your Dusty key on the gate to open it and make your way to the other side of the cavern filled with Blue dragons and then follow the tunnel south.

  3. You should now find yourself at a river of lava and this is where you can catch the Lava eels. The fishing spots can be difficult to spot, but they are basically black spirals in the lava. Use your Oily fishing rod to catch a few eels and exit the dungeon to cook them.
