Start Point:
Brimstail, in his cave on the western side of the Tree Gnome Stronghold.
To Start:
Speak to Brimstail.
Instructions:
  1. Start off by heading southwest from the Spirit tree in Tree Gnome Stronghold, until you see the quest start point and a dungeon entrance. Enter the cave and speak to Brimstail and he will ask you to go into the next cave and look at it carefully.

    Step 1

  2. Inspect the crystalline bowl in the center of the room, then do everything you can do on the large machine to the north.

    Step 2

  3. Go back and talk to Brimstail and he will ask you to go see Hazelmere. He lives on a small island directly east of Yanille.

Note: The quickest way to get over his place is by using the Fairy Ring code C-L-S from Zanaris. Players who haven't yet unlocked the ability to use Fairy Ring transportation system can use the spells Watchtower teleport (requires completion of Watchtower quest) and Khazard Teleport (requires lunar spellbook), and then walk from those places to their destination. Alternatively, you may also use Nightmare Zone minigame teleport and head south-east. This teleport has a 20-minute cooldown.

  4. Hazelmere can be found on the top floor of his house, on the small island east of Yanille. At first, he will only speak nonsense, but will then cast a spell on you so that you can understand him. Continue talking to him and a cut scene will occur about the Goblin Wars and Glouphrie. Once the cut scene has ended, Hazelmere will give you a Violet pentagon.

    Step 4

  5. Report back to Brimstail and another cut scene will occur of an invisible masked gnome destroying the machine. Talk to Brimstail again and you will come to the conclusion that someone invisible sabotaged the machine. Inspect the machine to find out that you will need Oak logs, Maple logs, a Hammer, a Saw, and a magical glue to repair it. Mix the Ground mud rune into the Bucket of sap, and you will produce some Magic glue. Repair the machine and talk to Brimstail. He will give you two more crystals.

    Step 8

  6. The whole machine is based on numbers. Your goal is to insert crystals into the machine so that they equal the number displayed. Here are the number values of all the crystals.

    Crystal Color Number Values
    Circle Triangle Square Pentagon
    Red 1 3 4 5
    Orange 2 6 8 10
    Yellow 3 9 12 15
    Green 4 12 16 20
    Blue 5 15 20 25
    Indigo 6 18 24 30
    Violet 7 21 28 35

  7. For example, if the first number you needed was 10, and if there was only one crystal slot, then you would need to use an orange pentagon in the machine. If you don't have the required crystal, you can use the exchanger to the right to convert high numbered crystals into multiple lower numbered ones. You can also exchange a couple of low value crystals to get a fewer higher valued crystals. Speaking to Brimstail at any time may get you more crystals

    Step 10a

    Step 10b

  8. When you have unlocked it, you will see a cutscene of the cute creature becoming an evil creature. Talk to Brimstail and you will determine they are spies. Brimstail also tells you to go talk to King Narnode Shareen. After establishing his pet became a little monster too, he will ask you to kill all the remaining Evil creatures. Run and kill the evil creature in the room (1 hp). Now you have to go kill the rest of them located in the following places:

    • In Brimstail's cave
    • Near the King in the Grand Tree
    • Near the Spirit tree
    • Near the Tree Gnome Stronghold entrance gate
    • Near the Gnome Glider, top floor of the Grand Tree
    • In the Battle Tortoise pens, northwest of the Grand Tree
    Step 11a

    Step 11b

  9. When you have killed all of the Evil creatures, go speak to the King, and you will finish the quest.

    Quest Complete

You can turn your Crystal seed into a Crystal Saw by going back to the Singing bowl in the cave and then choosing the Sing-glass option.

The Crystal Saw gives you +3 in Construction when building something in your house that requires a saw to build. It doesn't work on gardens, only objects and areas that needs a saw to build it. After you build 28 things with it, the saw will revert back to a seed.
