Strategies:
The King Black Dragon Lair can be accessed by climbing down the ladder in the Lesser demon cage on the west side of the Lava Maze and using the Artefact in the Poison spider room. Doing so will grant you a 10% damage bonus for the duration of your visit to the lair. Alternatively, you can access the lair via the Artefact found at the Wilderness wall northwest of Edgeville and this is highly recommended as the Wilderness entrance is remote and poses the risk of Player Killers.

During the fight the King uses a Melee attack and four types of dragonfire with different effects which are as follows:

  • Regular dragonfire: This is more powerful than the dragonfire of regular dragons, but can be reduced with appropriate dragonfire protection.
  • Electric dragonfire: Reduces stats levels by 1-2 each time. Can be counteracted with Restore or Super restore potions.
  • Poisonous dragonfire: Poisons you starting at 100 damage per hit. Can be counteracted with Antipoison or Super antipoison.
  • Ice dragonfire: Freezes you in place and prevents you from attacking for several seconds.
The three special dragonfire attacks also hit multiple times for up to 100 each time if dragonfire protection is used, but can hit much more without. Therefore it should go without saying that you must use an Anti-dragon shield or Dragonfire shield with Antifire potions, or Super antifire potions when fighting the King.

The chance of receiving better drops is increased by the Ring of luck, Strung rabbit foot, or Luck of the dwarves.
