Elite sets are essentially Basic/Modified outfits that can be combined to create an upgraded outfit; the Archaeology set is the only exceptioin to this. All of the outfits used to create the upgraded outfit share the same perks; the upgraded outfit offers a higher effect of these perks. Note that you will need to own the entire elite outfit and at least 1 of the associated Basic/Modified outfit pieces to obtain the experience boost. So for example, you must own the entire Divination chronicle set and have at least 1 piece of the Diviner's set for a boost (equal to the number of pieces of the Diviner's set owned). Note that the Dungeoneering set is an exception to this rule as there is no Basic/Modified version.
Note that the pieces used to create the final elite set can be traded 1 for 1 of the same set. For example, you can trade a Divination chronicle body for a Divination energy head but not for a Animal farmer jacket. In addition to this, all Elite sets (excluding the Archaeology set) can be created using Invention. This requires at least level 70 in the associated skill to obtain the fragments as well as level 80 of the associated skill and discovery of the Blueprints to create the outfit piece with the fragments.
