Rather than buying planks from the Grand Exchange/other players, you can choose to make your own by taking logs to a Sawmill operator who will convert them into planks for a price as shown below:
There are two NPCs around Gielinor who are able to provide this service and these are:
Name | Location | Map |
Plank maker | Slightly North of the house portal in Rimmington.
Sawmill operator | Sawmill in the Ithell sector of Prifddinas. |
The Garden supplier found in Falador Park sells bagged flowers, trees and hedges which can be planted in your Garden and Formal Garden.
The Stonemason in Keldagrim stocks several items used to make high-level and very expensive items of furniture in your Player-owned House.
Note: These items are also stocked by the Sawmill operator in Prifddinas
He can find your family crest or paint portraits, landscapes or maps for you. He is located upstairs (the floor above the groundfloor) in Falador castle.
To get painted shields or helms you must paint either steel or rune kite shields and full helmets. They will look exactly the same when their painted but when you have painted a rune kiteshield the painted shield will have better stats than when you paint a steel kiteshield.
Before you can even start painting steel and rune kiteshields/helmets, you must have a Family crest.
You can get a Family crest by speaking to Sir Renitee in the Falador Castle (on the floor above the ground floor). But before he will give you your Family crest you must be able to make wall decoration in your dining room (level 16 construction).
The benches required to paint shields, full helmets, and banners, are shown in the table below.
Painting Benches | |||||
Item name | Image | Level to make | Items needed | Use | XP Gained |
Pluming stand | 16 | 2 Oak planks | Used to paint Steel or Rune full helms in your Family crest colors | 120

Banner easel | 66 | 8 Oak planks, 2 Cloths | Used to make a wieldable banner in your Family crest colors | 510 |
In the table below is shown what is needed to make colored shields, full helmets, and banners. You can also see how much XP is gained when painting a shield, helmet, or banner, this is always the same amount.
Like stated before, painting rune kiteshields or full helmets will give the same look as painting steel kiteshields and full helmets.
The only difference is that the painted rune shields and helmets will have better stats.
Paintable Items | ||||
Item name | Image | Crafting level to make | Items needed | Crafting XP Gained |

Having your own house also allows you to get a servant. Having a servant has some great advantages, listed below, but you also have to pay for them.
North of the Market Place in East Ardougne is the Ardougne Domestic Service Agency (ADSA).
Talk to the Master servant located there and he will tell you about the 5 servants available, talk to one of these servants to hire him/her:
Level needed | Image | Name | Cost | Uses |
20 | Royal Guard | 500gp | He can serve shrimps, take items to and from your bank, welcome visitors and can carry 6 items.
20 | Rick | 500gp | He can serve shrimps, take items to and from your bank, welcome visitors and can carry 6 items.
25 | Maid | 1k | She can serve stews and cups of tea, take items to and from your bank faster than Rick, welcome visitors and can carry 10 items.
30 | Cook | 3k | She can serve pineapple pizzas, take items to and from your bank faster than the Maid, take wood to the sawmill operator and gets planks, welcome visitors and can carry 16 items.
40 | Butler | 5k | He can serve chocolate cake, take items to and from your bank faster than the Cook, take wood to the sawmill operator and gets planks faster than the Cook, welcome visitors and can carry 20 items.
50 | Demon Butler (Alathazdrar) | 10k | He can serve curry, take items to and from your bank faster than the Butler, take wood to the sawmill operator and gets planks faster then the Butler, welcome visitors and can carry 26 items. |
Some quick notes about servants:
- You need 2 bedrooms to get a servant (containing 1 bed each), one for you and 1 for him/her.
- You need a dining room and a kitchen with the needed tools to let your servant serve food for you and your friends.
- You have to pay him/her when he/she ask for wages.
- You can fire him/her anytime!
-
The servant will ask for a fee every 8 trips, the amount you need to pay is the same amount of coins you bought the servant for.
Example: if you bought a demon butler (10k) the fee he will ask for every 8 trips would be 10k. - After the completion of the Love Story quest, servants will be 25% cheaper.

Your garden is a decently useful room, although it only really has one use, and that is holding your portal so you can leave your house. You start with this room in the beginning.
Inside it you have the following items:
- Centrepiece (Portal, Dungeon Entrance or something that looks nice), a tree (no current use, cannot be chopped down).
- Small Plant 1 and 2 (no current use) and Big Plant 1 and 2 (no current use).
This is one of the best places to have a dungeon entrance.

Our little front room of the house. Also what we first make when we started building our house. But what is it useful for?
The Parlour itself is not one of the very useful rooms.
You get your first Parlour with the house. It can contains three chairs, a fireplace, curtains and a bookcase. The only useful object is the bookcase, where you can read books you've used during quests.
It can also be used as a small meeting place between you and your friends. Another activity you could do it there is reading. The bookcase is full of all books you've collected, so it can be a good place to read.

The kitchen, unlike the parlour, is a very useful room.
It is a great place to get up your cooking level, and even get free ingredients to do that with.
In a kitchen, you can have a source of fire (to cook food) going up to a range, your own water supply and shelves and a larder in which you can get materials.
You can also get a barrel of beer (Cider, Asgarnian Ale, Greeman's Ale and more as you get higher), and have a Cat blanket (or basket) for your cat to sleep in. You also have a table, which has no real current use. You can also serve tea and beer from here, or a servant could do it (if you have one). Any Tea/Beer/Cider and/or any other drink cannot leave your house, it must be drunk inside.
You can make a special kind of tea in your Kitchen that gives you a short-time bonus in Construction.
To boost your Construction level by 1, use the tea from:- Wooden shelves 1
- Wooden shelves 2
- Oak shelves 1
To boost your Construction level by 2, use the tea from:
- Wooden shelves 3
- Oak shelves 2
- Teak shelves 1
To boost your Construction level by 3, use the tea from:
- Teak shelves 2
The recipe for the tea is as follows:
- Get some Tea Leaves from the larder and a Teapot, Kettle, and Cup from the shelves.
- Fill the Kettle with water and put it on your stove.
- Use the tea with the teapot.
- When the Kettle boils, remove it from the stove and use it on the Teapot with Leaves.
- Then pour the Tea into the cup and drink it for that extra bonus!

The Dining Room, similar to the Parlour, is not a very useful room.
The Bell-Pull can be used to call in your servant (if you have one) to serve you food on the table, and the benches can be used to sit down with your friends. But apart from that, that's all the uses of this room.

Costs: 10,000 gp
The workshop is yet another useful room that you can build in your house.
At level 15 construction, you can buy one and start building in it. This is where you make money with the Construction skill.
Inside a fully constructed workshop, you can have a Workbench, a Heraldry, Repairing items, Tool stores and Crafting Tables.
In this room, you can build flatpack items with the workbench, use the Heraldry to colour Helmets and Shields, and to make banners. With the Repair items, you can repair broken arrows, broken staffs, damaged armour and Barrows armour, as well as sharpen rusty swords.
To make any of the clockwork toys you are always in need of Clockwork.
The materials needed to make clockwork and all the other toys are shown in the table below.
For each toy you also need a certain crafting table to make the toy on. The crafting table needed is also shown in the table below.

There are a lot of fun games available in this area after you have built them. You and your friends can have fun and relax in here. It is a room to enjoy and one of the more fun rooms in the house. You can have more than one game in this room, the games available:
-
Attack Stones:
Built in the center of the room, you and your opponent take turns hitting the stone until one of you finally manages to destroy it. Beware, stones can chip off and damage you. The stones become progressively harder to damage as the material strength increases (clay, limestone, and marble). -
Hoop and Stick:
You have 10 shots to try and score higher than your opponent. -
Darts:
An upgrade of hoop and stick. Throw 10 darts to try and score higher than your opponent. -
Archery Target:
An upgrade of darts. Shoot 10 arrows or bolts to try and score higher than your opponent. -
Jester:
Similar to the mime random event, the first to copy 10 emotes correctly is the winner. -
Treasure Hunt:
A fairy gives every player a magic stone then hides somewhere within the house. The players move throughout the house, feeling the stone as they go along. The hotter the stone feels, the closer you are to the fairy. If it gets colder, you are moving in the wrong direction. The first person to find the fairy wins. -
Hangman:
Like your typical game of hangman, players take turns guessing letters to common RuneScape words. For every letter you get wrong, the game builds a puppet hangman. The winner of the game is the one who guesses the last letter of the word or who guesses the entire word. -
Elemental Balance:
This game requires as much logic as it does magical ability. The object of the game is to change the sphere to white by counteracting various colors. Fire and water counteract each other as do earth and air. If the sphere is blue, one would cast a Fire spell on it. Strike spells add less color than a Blast or a Wave spell would. The winner is the one who manages to balance the sphere.

This room in the house is an extremely useful room.
The Portal Chamber allows you to teleport from your house to various locations on the RuneScape map (as long as you have charged up the portals with the runes to do the teleports).
Inside the rooms are the following items: Portals (for the teleporting to a certain location) and the Centerpiece
(can be used to direct portals to teleport locations and to view locations with the 'Scry' option (only with the 'Scrying pool'). With this option you are able to see what is going on at that location.

The Formal Garden is not a place that is really useful, it's simply a room where you can show off your Construction (gardening) skills to your friends.
You can have a portal inside, but you already have one in the garden. A dungeon entrance is rather useful as a centerpiece.
You can buy the bagged plants from the Gardener.
Inside this 'Formal Garden' you can have the following items:
- A centerpiece (which can be a portal, dungeon entrance, or something that looks nice, like a fountain).
- Small/Big Plants (Sunflowers, Marigolds or a Rose, no current use for them, only for decoration).

There are only a few uses for construction within the dungeons of Daemonheim. All of which are centered around the Gatestone portal found in the starting room. The higher level your construction is, the more things you can build:
Feature Created | Construction Level | Experience Gained | Materials Needed | Uses |
Group gatestone portal | 1 | 0 | None | Allows users to teleport quickly to the Group gatestone without casting the teleport spell and using runes. |
Photobooth | 1 | 0 | None | Allows users to take an image of themselves. |
Farming patch | 25 | 9 | 5 Bathus bars and 5 Seeping elm branches | Allows users to plant and grow seeds. |
Cooking range | 50 | 13.5 | 5 Kratonite bars and 5 Utuku branches | Allows users to cook raw food at a reduced burn rate. Logs will also burn for longer than usual. |
(Gilded) Prayer Altar | 75 | 29.1 | 5 Bovistrangler branches and 5 Zephyrium bars | Allows users to recharge their prayer points and bury bones there for 4 times the normal experience. |
Skillcape stand | 99 | 0 | Tangle gum branches | Allows users to view their skillcape and perform the Dungeoneering skillcape emote. |
One of the best ways to gain Construction XP is to make something, remove it then remake it again. Some good things to use for this are: Fireplaces, Dining Room Tables, and Larders. The most commonly furniture that people rebuild to train their Construction level are Oak larders (requires 33 Construction)
Another good example is to have a pickaxe and move your house to Rimmington. Go to the mine northeast of the POH portal in Rimmington and mine Clay. Then use the clay with your sink and go in building mode. Build Clay fireplaces and rebuilding it. Repeat this process over and over again. Alternatively a Bracelet of Clay could be used, allowing you to mine Wet Clay.
When training construction, it is advised that you hire a servant because you can send them to the sawmill. If you do not have much money, then bring a hatchet and chop down Trees or Oak trees depending what plank you want outside of the POH portal. Go inside your house and send your servant to the sawmill. If you have a lot of money, then buy the amount of logs that you want to have turned into planks. Take all of the logs in noted form and head to your house. Ask your butler to unnote an inventory of logs. When they come back, ask them to take the logs to the sawmill. As soon as they return from the sawmill you can start to constructing items. Make sure you have enough money to pay the servant and the cost for the planks.
Once you have a Workshop and have constructed the Tool Store 1, you can get a saw and hammer by searching your tool store. This is useful when you teleport to your house using runes.
Violate and Morphic tools, rewards from the Stealing Creation Activity, can be turned into a Clay hammer. A Violate tool will randomly turn into a new tool and give 120% extra experience before it disintegrates. On the other hand, a Morphic tool will turn into the tool of your choice and keep that form before in desintergrates. However a morphic tool will only give 100% extra experience before it disappears.
Guild Trophies and Armour Stands
To get some extra xp, make Armour stands (Skill hall, 28 construction) or Guild trophies (Quest hall, 47 construction) these give more xp then the regular xp, but when you remove the object, you'll get back the special item(s). For example, the Cape of legends trophy requires 3 teak planks (270xp) and a Cape of legends (30xp), which makes a total of 300xp. When you remove it, you will get your Cape of legends back.
Agility Shortcuts and Construction
Many shortcuts require players to bring a crossbow and grapple or a rope every time they want to use them, but with a few materials and a high enough construction level, you can build hidey-holes and rope racks to make sure they're fine to use every time. Each shortcut requires a saw and hammer, as well as other varying items and construction levels:
Hidey-Holes | |||
Location | Construction level | Materials | Experience |
Falador wall | 29 | 4 Planks, Bronze crossbow, Mithril grapple, 4 Nails | 408 |

If there's something you want to build that is just out of reach, there are three ways to temporarily raise your construction level.
- Crystal Saw
- Evil Stew
- Tea
The Crystal Saw adds +3 to your construction level, but it only works for furniture; you cannot use it to build higher-level rooms than you can ordinarily build. Crystal Saws can only be received after completing the quest The Eyes of Gloughphrie. After they are used 24 times, they revert to a Small crystal seed and must be recharged at the crystal bowl in Brimstail's cave, inside the Gnome Stronghold. Crystal saw bonuses stack with Evil Stew or Tea, and do not directly affect your construction level on the statistics menu.
Evil Stew, made after rescuing Evil Dave as part of the Recipe for Disaster quest, can raise or lower various skills that a player has. Evil stew with orange spices can affect your construction, up to a range of roughly -6 to +6 for stews with three orange spices mixed in. It is best to make several stews beforehand, as they are unpredictable and do not always raise construction.
For more information on Tea, please see the Tea section higher up in the guide.
For XP rewards from quests, see the Quest Experience Guide special report.
The Constructor's outfit is a possible reward from the Temple Trekking/Burgh de Rott Ramble minigame which requires 44 Construction to wear.. When worn, each piece will give you a additional amount of experience when building furniture in your POH.

Construction Capes of Accomplishment
Once you have achieved level 99, you may visit an Estate agent to purchase a Construction cape for 99,000 Coins.
Once you have achieved level 120, an Estate agent will sell you the Construction master cape for 120,000 Coins.
Discount
Note that as of December 2018, another one of Mod Daze's Easter Eggs have been found. This enables you to purchase a Skillcape for half price (only from an Estate agent, not Elen) if you are wearing a Ring of Charos (a). Be aware that "Half price" is 92,000 Coins as the experience at level 92 is approximately half way to level 99.
