Holiday Rares are items that were dropped on holidays to give the RuneScape
players a bit of a reward for playing. Jagex made some of the later holiday
items untradeable due to the fact that players were collecting lots of
them, and selling them to make lots of cash fast. After many players
complained to Jagex about not being able to get ahold of these drops. Jagex also
has extended recent holiday drop periods to two weeks. Below is a list of
the holiday items that have been dropped in the past and a bit of
information about each.

There are few items that do not fit into the above categories, but are still considered rare. Most of these items were discontinued or changed, so only a small amount remain in the game. The only way to obtain them is to pay high prices to other players, and once they are gone, they are gone forever.
Picture | Item Name | Information |
Disk of returning | Players were originally punished for breaking the rules by being sent to an area known as the Black Hole until their punishment expired. Jagex created a version of the Black Hole for normal players to visit and the Disk of returning could be used get back out. The Black Hole was eventually removed in December 2001, however the Disk of returning was left in the game. As few people possessed a Disk when the hole was removed and many of those will likely have been lost over the years, this item is extremely rare.
Half full wine jug | Jugs of wine were originally drunk in two doses and a Half full wine jug was the result of drinking one dose. This was eventually changed sometime in 2001, however any Half full jugs were left in the game. As very few people possessed a Half full jug when the change was made and many of these have likely been lost over the years, this is now considered to be one of the rarest items in the game.
Fish mask | The Fish mask was originally obtainable from June - September 2012 as a reward from the Squeal of Fortune. As it was discontinued, it is now considered to be a tradable rare.
Christmas tree hat | The Christmas tree hat was originally obtainable during December 2012 and January 2013 by collecting four different colored presents either through skilling and combat or the Squeal of Fortune. As it was discontinued, it is now considered to be a tradable rare.
Crown of Seasons | The Crown of Seasons was originally obtainable during June and July 2013 by winning one on the Squeal of Fortune or making it from four coronets whose required materials could also be found on the Squeal of Fortune. The crown changes appearance based on the current season and can be inverted to match the southern hemisphere for those who live there. As it was discontinued, it is now considered to be a tradable rare.
Black Santa hat | The Black Santa hat was originally obtainable during December 2013 and January 2014 as a rare reward for pulling a Festive cracker. These crackers were found either through skilling and combat, daily challenges or taking part in 'The Bird and the Beast' World Event that was ongoing at the time. As it was discontinued, it now considered to be a tradable rare.
Monkey cape | The Monkey cape was originally obtainable during 26 May to 28 May 2012 from Wild Weekends, which were activities held throughout the weekends of May 2012 as a part of Mad May. It was obtainable after finding all 10 monkeys in Chase the Monkey, after which the cape would have appeared in the player's inventory. |
