*Fish will only heal the maximum amount when your Constitution level is equal to or higher than the Cooking level required to cook the fish. If your Constitution is lower, then it will heal significantly less than the values in the table above.
While training the Dungeoneering skill, you will occasionally come across fishing spots where you can fly-fish for food. All fish require feathers and a fly-fishing rod to catch. You will only be able to catch fish in dungeons with a Complexity level of 2 or above. Below is a table showing the different types of fish and the level required to catch them. Refer to our Cooking guide for more information on how much they heal.

Training Methods (Free-to-play)
Level 1-10
The easiest and fastest way to get started is by catching Crayfish. Players can catch crayfish using a Crayfish cage, which can be obtained from the Lumbridge or Port Sarim fishing shop. Successfully catching a crayfish rewards 10 Fishing experience. This is good experience for free players, and is helpful because crayfish are caught very fast, much faster than shrimp and other low-level fish.
Crayfish are exclusively caught in the section of the River Lum found east of the church in Lumbridge, or in Taverley, a bit south-east of the farming patch, where the Taverley River extends.
To improve your experience rates, it's suggested to drop your fishes using ability bar (available in Evolution of Combat mode). Drag a raw Crayfish into your ability bar and rapidly press the key allotted to the slot where you placed the fish. The best thing is before your inventory gets full, you should start dropping as you will continue to fish without interruption.
It is not advised to bank crayfishes but if you want, run to the top of the Lumbridge castle or use the bank chest at the Evolution of Combat training grounds.
Level 10-15
From now onwards, you're supposed to catch Herring. Players can catch Herring using a normal Fishing rod and Fishing bait at any net/bait fishing spot in Gielinor. Succesfully catching a Herring gives 30 Fishing experience. Bait must be in a players inventory, with one being used for every fish caught. The best place to fish Herring, after the Stolen Hearts quest update, is west of the Al Kharid bank (The spots were moved when the update was put in, and have now become safe from the scorpion that used to roam near the previous fishing spots). This is because the bank is close to the fishing spot and a cooking range is a little north of the bank if you want to train cooking.
Level 15-20
At Level 15, it is suggested to catch Anchovies. Players can catch anchovies with a small net, and gain 40 experience in doing so. You can stay at the Fishing spot west of Al-Kharid Bank if you wish.
Level 20-30
From here, players can catch Trout, which can be lured using Feathers and a Fly fishing rod at Gunnarsgrunn (known as Barbarian Village to players that have not completed the Gunnar's Ground quest) or Lumbridge, yielding 50 experience per catch. It is suggested to drop them via your ability bar to improve experience rates.
You need to catch 178 Trouts to reach from 20 Fishing to 30 Fishing.
Level 30-45
Fish Salmon, along with Trout, at Gunnarsgrunn or the Lumbridge River. These both are caught during Fly-fishing. Training at Gunnarsgrunn spot yields hourly experience of ~40K if you drop the fish using your ability bar. If players wish to bank the fish, they're advised to catch them at the Lumbridge spot which is very close the bank chest in Combat Academy.
Level 45-60
Players should now catch Tuna, which can be caught using a Harpoon at the Musa Point spot in Karamja, yielding 80 experience per catch.
Level 60-99
At this stage, players should catch Lobsters all the way to 99. Players can catch Lobsters using a Lobster pot at the Musa Point spot in Karamja, yielding giving 90 experience per catch.
Training Methods (Pay-to-play)
Level 1-10
Players should catch crayfish using a Crayfish cage. Successfully catching a crayfish rewards 10 Fishing experience. The best spot to fish Crayfish is behind the Lumbridge church on the River Lum.
Level 10-20
At level 10, players should hop over to the fishing spot in Draynor Village where they can catch Herring, using a using a normal Fishing rod and Fishing bait. Succesfully catching a Herring gives 30 Fishing experience.
Level 20-30
At this stage, players should start with Fly-fishing. It is suggested to hop over to the fishing spot near Rasolo, south of the Baxtorian Falls, where players can catch Trout. To do so, players will need some Feathers and a Fly fishing rod. It will take 178 trout to achieve level 30 from level 20, so you will need 178 feathers.
Level 30-70
From now onwards, it's suggested to Fly-fish for Salmon and Trout at Shilo Village. The completion of the Shilo Village quest is required in order to use this location. It is estimated to yield approximately about 35,000 experience per hour if you drop the fish using your ability bar. To yield more experience, it's suggested to equip Full fishing outfit (provides 5% experience boost), have a Clan avatar summoned, and using Decorated fishing urns.
Level 70-90 (or 99)
At this stage players are suggested to move over to Barbarian Fishing, which is the second best possible way to gain Fishing experience in-game. It is possible to yield over 80,000 experience hour with this method.
If you're not sure how to begin with this method, please read our Barbarian Training guide.
Level 90-99
At this level players are able to yield the best possible Fishing experience in-game by catching blue crabs and cave morays in complexity 2 dungeons. Players are likely to yield over 90,000 experience per hour if they're soloing the dungeon, and about 120,000 experience if they're accompanied with a friend or partner who leads the way. And, since the fish caught are stackable, therefore you don't require to drop them.
This method requires a lot of concentration to maintain the accuracy of your hourly experience rates, therefore it's suggested not to multitask at the same time. If you're willing to multitask while training, you'd be better off with the Barbarian Fishing method.
Once you have achieved level 99, you may visit the Master Fisher, right outside the Fishing guild, to purchase a Fishing cape for 99,000 Coins.
Once you have achieved level 120, the Master Fisher will sell you the Fishing master cape for 120,000 Coins.
Discount
Note that as of December 2018, another one of Mod Daze's Easter Eggs have been found. This enables you to purchase a Skillcape for half price (only from the Master Fisher, not Elen) if you are wearing a Ring of Charos (a). Be aware that "Half price" is 92,000 Coins as the experience at level 92 is approximately half way to level 99.
