A Tribute and Farewell

In Loving Memory

Celebrating 23 years of RuneHQ history
and the community that made it special.

More than a website: a home for adventurers, a library of shared knowledge, and friendships that reached far beyond the game.

A Tribute To

Deb & Gene

The hearts behind RuneHQ

Deb and Gene helped shape RuneHQ into a place where adventurers could learn, share, and belong. We honor their vision, dedication, kindness, and generosity, and the community built around those values.

Deb and Gene seated together, smiling at the camera.
Deb & Gene

“More than a website, RuneHQ was a home—and at its heart were two extraordinary people.”

Without Deb and Gene here to help us carry RuneHQ forward, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the RuneHQ website at the end of 2026.

I remember getting the link to RuneHQ from a kid at my elementary school. I greatly looked up to him because he was "so good" at the game - but with RuneHQ guides and tips I also started progressing faster and faster. Thank you for the memories!

Runehq will always have a special place in my heart. I grew up using the site religiously and it helped foster my lifelong love for Runescape. All good things eventually come to an end but this one stings above most others. The website may be closing but our memories shall carry on!

Wow, what an announcement. Although I have moved on from RuneHQ, I still remember some of my time fondly, including how the close-knit group of friends that I still have today came to be. I joined RuneHQ Forums and community shortly after Gene passed away, not really understanding his legacy or how truly important he was to the community.

That was back in 2014, shortly before notable people like Sirius joined. This was after having used RuneHQ since around 2005/2006. Maybe a year later, I applied to become a Content guy and edit some of the guides on the site. Soon after I joined the staff, I put myself in the position to edit the OSRS side of guides, as I really enjoyed what the Old School side of the game had to offer. I did this for quite a bit and also integrated myself more within the community. Though it was on the tail end, I poked around the IRC channels, having fun with the custom bot stuff that was created for it, and seeing the rich history. Ultimately, I ended up joining the Chat Mod team, which was inspirational for creating the original Discord and getting that up and running.

Though things didn't end the way I wished, I loved being a part of the community and wished it the best. It is sad to see another site go, but I am glad that life continued to move on and look semi-bright. Thank you to the people that kept everything alive.

I started Runescape back when Runescape Classic was the current Runescape.

During RS2, I decided to try and get all the quests done. I couldn't have done it without RuneHQ. I am very devastated at the news of its sunset. Love you all, and wish you the very best!

Runescape was a huge part of my childhood, and RuneHQ was my go-to for any and all help I needed. Thank you for all of your work and dedication.

What a journey, this was my main go to for quest guides back when I was 10 years old when I no clue how an MMO functions. RIP Gene & Deb!

To this day I still use RuneHQ and have since I was just 14 years old. I’m heartbroken that this is the final chapter, as I feel like I’ve genuinely grown up with RHQ. I had no idea the people behind it - only the immense help and role it brought to the RuneScape community.

Longtime user (since 2004!)

I’ve been playing RuneScape since I was in the third grade. I VIVIDLY remember having runeHQ open every time I logged in; from quest help to slayer information: it was a one stop shop. I saw it was shutting down today on Instagram and came to pay my respects. RuneScape and the community made me who I am today, and looking back; I’m glad everything happened the way it did.

I remember using this website for skill guides & quests back in 2005.

Although I no longer play runescape it's still sad to see the website go. I remember having many latenights trying to complete quests using runeHQ & having a good time.

Thank you to deb, gene & the runeHQ team. farewell
