A Tribute and Farewell

In Loving Memory

Celebrating 23 years of RuneHQ history
and the community that made it special.

More than a website: a home for adventurers, a library of shared knowledge, and friendships that reached far beyond the game.

A Tribute To

Deb & Gene

The hearts behind RuneHQ

Deb and Gene helped shape RuneHQ into a place where adventurers could learn, share, and belong. We honor their vision, dedication, kindness, and generosity, and the community built around those values.

“More than a website, RuneHQ was a home—and at its heart were two extraordinary people.”

Without Deb and Gene here to help us carry RuneHQ forward, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the RuneHQ website at the end of 2026.

I'll be honest, I don't know where to begin. I was a budding middle schooler that was convinced by my cousins to get into this game they found called "Runescape", and I started with doubts of whether I'd like it. Fast forward several months later, and one of my new friends Swordpoint2 invited me into this clan he had just joined, called TORC. I put him off several times, as I was trying to "not get involved with people on the internet". I mean, I was barely 13, and MMORPG's were in their infancy, and my parents were quite strict, so I was only trying to follow the rules at the time. On top of all that, being an actual GIRL playing a game in the early 2000's left me vulnerable, and I didn't want to complicate that. Finally, he wore me down enough, and one day, after discussing it with my parents, I submitted an application and became a new member of TORC.

I don't regret that action one Fordin' bit.

That clan taught me so much, and I made so many friends - several of which I still chat with today. I learned life skills, basic coding, management styles, and social skills as I rose through the ranks, eventually becoming one of the staff members under Gene's leadership. Side note: Knowing Im4eversmart was a pretty cool thing, not gonna lie! Being in the clan helped me get through the angst of high school, knowing that I had friends I could "come home to" after getting bullied or teased weekly with no relief in sight.

And even though we had a bitter end and became TEH, I wouldn't change a thing. TORC and RuneHQ defined my formative years, helped me become the person I am today, with knowledge that has carried past beyond that "gaming phase" Mom always complained about. Deb and Gene, even though you're no longer on this plane of existence, I thank you and the whole crew for getting us TORCians off the ground, and giving us all a place to call "home".

I salute my crowbar to you, may you find peace with Guthix in the city in the sky.

I have great memories of using this site back in 2004-2008. RIP

This was my go to website for many years from the mid 2000s until Eoc times. The way the quest guides and other walkthroughs were written was better for me than any other and the npc/item database was the best of its kind in those times for me. While I wasn't involved in the community around this website and the fantastic people who have built and maintained it for all these years, it was always my home for Runescape information. I'm saddened to hear of the loss of this community and its founders, while they can't see the words I'm typing or the memories in my heart I hope some part of them understood the impact this Information and community hub has had on the many players and people who have come in contact with them over the last 20 odd years.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all who made this website and community what it is.

Most of all, Thank you Gene and Deb. May they rest in piece.

Feels like a nightmare. Literally. This website is imbedded in my childhood. But like all good things, they all must eventually come to an end. What an era, what a run. Legendary is an understatement. Thank you, Deb & Gene, for your extremely positive impact on my life.

My whole childhood… was a lot better because of this site. #cheers

Wish it could last forever. #nestalgia

Thank you Deb, Gene, and everyone over the years for making RuneHQ what it was. A place for new and veteran players of the game to come to and get guidance on their RuneScape journeys. Everybody at RuneHQ has helped shaped the lives of RuneScape players and allowed us to achieve things we could have only ever imagined. Deb, Gene and RuneHQ will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything.

Remember playing RuneScape late 2005 after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina in a town called Hoover Alabama. Friends showed me RuneScape, but I was not great at questing. A friend mentioned RuneHQ and I used it for so many years for questing and information. Sad piece of the games history is going away.

It's been a while since I came here for help the last time, but I have fond memories of the site, back before 2010. Sad to see it go, but glad it's been here in the first place.

I know how it feels to let go a site in which you poured a lot of love, and as such... thank you to everyone that helped keep RuneHQ alive until now.
