A Tribute and Farewell

In Loving Memory

Celebrating 23 years of RuneHQ history
and the community that made it special.

More than a website: a home for adventurers, a library of shared knowledge, and friendships that reached far beyond the game.

A Tribute To

Deb & Gene

The hearts behind RuneHQ

Deb and Gene helped shape RuneHQ into a place where adventurers could learn, share, and belong. We honor their vision, dedication, kindness, and generosity, and the community built around those values.

Deb and Gene seated together, smiling at the camera.
Deb & Gene

β€œMore than a website, RuneHQ was a homeβ€”and at its heart were two extraordinary people.”

Without Deb and Gene here to help us carry RuneHQ forward, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the RuneHQ website at the end of 2026.

Thank you for all that you have done for the generations playing RuneScape. I remember being a kid and using the resources you had to get through a tough part of a quest or read up on a rare item. Thank you for everything πŸ™πŸΌ

I never had the chance to meet Deb or Gene, but RuneHQ was a big part of my RuneScape experience for many years. Its guides and calculators helped me countless times. Years later, I joined the team as a developer, hoping to help update the site I had used for so long. Although my time there was short, I’m grateful I had the chance to contribute what I could. RuneHQ will always mean a lot to me.

Rune HQ was my go-to for all things RuneScape. I remember coming home from school in 3rd grade and browsing the site for tips. If it weren’t for this place, I would never have been able to complete quests. Now, as a 32-year-old man, it will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for everything.

You were my go to page when I needed help back at the very beginning. The knowledge and community this page offered through all the quests, 99's, and puzzles was the reason I still play. A heart felt thank you for all your hard work and time you gave so willingly - you will be missed but never forgotten.

i remember being clueless about a quest and having no where to look to find anything. Every google search runehq showed up and 10 year old me could not have made it very far without it. Rip Gene and Deb.

Thank you for everything. This was a special thing, and it was clearly ran by two special people. Rest easy now :)

Fond memories of this site, my first Forum Mod role I remember compliance being taken so seriously here I had to get a Guardian to sign a permission slip for me to be able to actually do it after I got the role. I remember TORC, the iron wars and snowball fights. A crucial part of one's childhood. A lot of names I recognise in the guestbook already (hi Bazzy!).

RIP Gene & Deb.
I also lost track of what happened to Ian last I remember he quit when he started college I hope he's doing well too.

I'll be honest, I don't know where to begin. I was a budding middle schooler that was convinced by my cousins to get into this game they found called "Runescape", and I started with doubts of whether I'd like it. Fast forward several months later, and one of my new friends Swordpoint2 invited me into this clan he had just joined, called TORC. I put him off several times, as I was trying to "not get involved with people on the internet". I mean, I was barely 13, and MMORPG's were in their infancy, and my parents were quite strict, so I was only trying to follow the rules at the time. On top of all that, being an actual GIRL playing a game in the early 2000's left me vulnerable, and I didn't want to complicate that. Finally, he wore me down enough, and one day, after discussing it with my parents, I submitted an application and became a new member of TORC.

I don't regret that action one Fordin' bit.

That clan taught me so much, and I made so many friends - several of which I still chat with today. I learned life skills, basic coding, management styles, and social skills as I rose through the ranks, eventually becoming one of the staff members under Gene's leadership. Side note: Knowing Im4eversmart was a pretty cool thing, not gonna lie! Being in the clan helped me get through the angst of high school, knowing that I had friends I could "come home to" after getting bullied or teased weekly with no relief in sight.

And even though we had a bitter end and became TEH, I wouldn't change a thing. TORC and RuneHQ defined my formative years, helped me become the person I am today, with knowledge that has carried past beyond that "gaming phase" Mom always complained about. Deb and Gene, even though you're no longer on this plane of existence, I thank you and the whole crew for getting us TORCians off the ground, and giving us all a place to call "home".

I salute my crowbar to you, may you find peace with Guthix in the city in the sky.

I have great memories of using this site back in 2004-2008. RIP
