A Tribute and Farewell

In Loving Memory

Celebrating 23 years of RuneHQ history
and the community that made it special.

More than a website: a home for adventurers, a library of shared knowledge, and friendships that reached far beyond the game.

A Tribute To

Deb & Gene

The hearts behind RuneHQ

Deb and Gene helped shape RuneHQ into a place where adventurers could learn, share, and belong. We honor their vision, dedication, kindness, and generosity, and the community built around those values.

Deb and Gene seated together, smiling at the camera.
Deb & Gene

“More than a website, RuneHQ was a home—and at its heart were two extraordinary people.”

Without Deb and Gene here to help us carry RuneHQ forward, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the RuneHQ website at the end of 2026.

Thank you for being a part of my life growing up. All my late nights and long days started with a visit to this website 20 years ago. Im terribly sorry for your loss. Your impact you had on me and this community will never be forgotten. May the adventures continue in heaven. Amen.

Runehq was my go to site for many years. For years whenever I was stuck in the game,I'd give runehq a visit and it would usually have the answers I need,or am looking for. It's sad that this website is being discontinued after almost 30 year's, it's almost as if a small part of me will die as well when the site goes down.

I used RuneHQ religiously starting in 2006. It allowed me as an underaged Scaper to understand and navigate the world of Gielinor when I couldn’t figure things out for myself (which was common)

Becoming a more competent Scaler helped me connect to my older brother who showed me the game in the first place, too. We are still close despite living thousands of miles apart and RuneHQ was the catalyst for this

I’ll never forget how much it helped me in my journey. Thanks RuneHQ!

The end of an era, I was a crewbie on Tip.it, and a very active member of the community.

I was always amazed by the quality of the guides, community and it's very sad to see RuneHQ go.

Hopefully it can be archived somehow, RIP to Deb and Gene, I never met you but you helped so many players in RuneScapes golden age.

I was introduced to the site by a former neighbor and still hella chill buddy of mine when I was getting confused over... Haunted Mine, I think? The guides here gave me a good push towards getting some must-have mid-game milestones in the early 2010's.

At the same time though, I saw most of the RS community as trolls, scammers, and bots. And my anti-social tendencies, combined with my mom instilling a lot of internet paranoia unto me, didn't quite help the matter. But then clans became a thing and I was like "Hey, I know that site!" and joined. Met some of the coolest internet buddies I still chat with here and there like Im Your Cat, James Rhodes, High Vortex, Sliver, Rednar, Bertie, and much more. Been there for the good, some of the bad, and the weird like when Double D Edd got mad that I broke the calculator in IRC by dividing by zero.

They say we can't have nice things, but there are at least good things, but unfortunately, they all must come to an end.

I don't know what comes after the end, but I hope Gene and Deb are smiling more with every goofy joke we crack left and right.

Goodnight, RuneHQ'ers.

This was my go site in my early years of gameplay.
Many an hour was spent here digging for info.
All good things must come to an end

This was such a childhood staple to always log in to Runehq and use the Blazekit (I hope I remembered that correctly). Nevertheless, I know Runehq had their own client and I would talk to staff all the time (it was kinda like Swiftkit/Swiftswitch), but dang the memories. So sad to see this website go as it will definitely be missed.

I wish you guys all the best! This loss hurts my inner child :(

What to even say, not really a day anyone would have thought would come around really. Well, the website really introduced me to a lot of things, in 2009 I became a Radio DJ and learnt how to stream my own music to a website (Even hosting a 10 hour loop of Friday - Rebecca Black when it was April 1st), to how to edit new posts and moderate forums. My second run as a forum moderator under James was when I really got to grips with how much the website really meant to Gene and Deb, Gene had just returned and dragged everyone into TeamSpeak for a massive staff meeting, which in the end resulted in myself not sleeping until 8am the next day. His passion for the site, and how much love Gene and Deb both had for each other, was inspiring for us all. As someone who joined RuneHQ over 20 years ago, and became staff around 17 years ago, life has it's way of drawing you back no matter what direction you head in. I have no regrets over my time spent on RuneHQ, and would do it all again in the next lifetime. Save me a beer up there Gene, I'm heading to your table when I get there.
