A Tribute and Farewell

In Loving Memory

Celebrating 23 years of RuneHQ history
and the community that made it special.

More than a website: a home for adventurers, a library of shared knowledge, and friendships that reached far beyond the game.

A Tribute To

Deb & Gene

The hearts behind RuneHQ

Deb and Gene helped shape RuneHQ into a place where adventurers could learn, share, and belong. We honor their vision, dedication, kindness, and generosity, and the community built around those values.

Deb and Gene seated together, smiling at the camera.
Deb & Gene

“More than a website, RuneHQ was a home—and at its heart were two extraordinary people.”

Without Deb and Gene here to help us carry RuneHQ forward, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the RuneHQ website at the end of 2026.

RuneHQ is the best site ever. It grew from an idea to help others, to a massive community decades later. Thank you everyone for the years of friendship. A huge special thank you to those who volunteered their time for the site as Staff, especially the Content team making the best quest guides out there. The passion you all shared during our events was amazing, and the laughs were contagious (the many hours spent on IRC, ventrilo and teamspeak!!) Thank you RuneHQ!!!

I joined the community many years ago, around 2010, and had the pleasure of working for and eventually leading the Events Team. We had such an amazing time hosting events for everyone, whether they were minigames, boss masses, or just hide and seek. When I eventually became a Manager and Site Administrator, I met Deb, Gene and Draven and worked with them to ensure that our events were running smoothly. In 2013, we handed out some RuneHQ branded stress knights at RuneFest. If you still have one of those, it was me! :P

Sadly due to real life commitments (Yes, I was a student in those days!) I eventually landed a full time job and found that I had less time to organise stuff, so I had to step down, but I fondly look back on those days with such nostalgia.

I'd like to thank everyone that I met along the way. King_of_Alba, Lilroo503, Double_D_Edd, Kunio, Cowlover, Sliver, Alfawarlord, Bazzy, Superfly, Mark, and many, many more! (Sorry if I forgot to mention you!) We had such amazing banter on Ventrilo back in the day. (I should really join the discord. XD)

Much love!

James, formerly The Eggman

Former Site Administrator

I have had the pleasure to use this community for its helpful guides, its quests and many other things. Afterwards even helping RuneHQ in various roles both on the site and ingame. It has been a wild emotional ride which has come to an end but also as a new beginning! For me RuneHQ will always exsist. May RuneHQ rest together with Gene & Deb.

Where to begin...It's been a heck of a journey. All the crazy times we had in Ventrilo and TeamSpeak for Karaoke night and all the stories that we'll be able to remember years from now. I'd like to say thank you to everyone who gave everything they had for RuneHQ that being the community who took the time to put in guides and the Content Team as well, you all did and amazing job.

On a personal level... Thank you, Gene and Deb, for letting me be a part of the team as a Forum Moderator and Server Administrator for over 17 years, it will always hold a special place with me.

Former RuneHQ Server Admin

Wow, what an announcement. Although I have moved on from RuneHQ, I still remember some of my time fondly, including how the close-knit group of friends that I still have today came to be. I joined RuneHQ Forums and community shortly after Gene passed away, not really understanding his legacy or how truly important he was to the community.

That was back in 2014, shortly before notable people like Sirius joined. This was after having used RuneHQ since around 2005/2006. Maybe a year later, I applied to become a Content guy and edit some of the guides on the site. Soon after I joined the staff, I put myself in the position to edit the OSRS side of guides, as I really enjoyed what the Old School side of the game had to offer. I did this for quite a bit and also integrated myself more within the community. Though it was on the tail end, I poked around the IRC channels, having fun with the custom bot stuff that was created for it, and seeing the rich history. Ultimately, I ended up joining the Chat Mod team, which was inspirational for creating the original Discord and getting that up and running.

Though things didn't end the way I wished, I loved being a part of the community and wished it the best. It is sad to see another site go, but I am glad that life continued to move on and look semi-bright. Thank you to the people that kept everything alive.

Former Content editor and Discord moderator

The day I started playing Runescape, a friend mentioned RuneHQ as the place for Guides and info. A year laterIa joined the forums to help update the info of an item on the site. Shortly after I got promoted to Concent Editor and never left since. Thanks to Gene and Dravan, I was given the trust to work my way up to Content Manager/Admin. Later on I made the switch to becom the Admin of the Events Team and the official RuneHQ Clan. RuneHQ has taught me various skills on how to lead a team along with improving my English, not my native tongue. Here, I have met so many wonderful people. May the spirit of RuneHQ live on.

A Farewell to Our Community

Thank You

To our visitors, members, guide writers, donors, moderators, staff, and friends: thank you for every question answered, every guide improved, every discussion shared, and every friendship formed.

RuneHQ was more than a website. It was a community, and that was always because of you.

Although the site is closing, the RuneHQ Discord and clan will continue, giving the community a place to stay connected and carry on the friendships built here.

It's not goodbye, just a new chapter.
