I was first introduced to RuneScape by my best friend sometime around 2005, when we were still in elementary school. I was hooked almost immediately, and nearly 20 years later, I can honestly say I've never truly "quit."
Some of my fondest childhood memories revolve around RuneScape. During recess, a small group of us would make a beeline for the school computers and spend the entire break playing. That is, until the school eventually caught on and banned the website. We managed to find a workaround for a little while by accessing the game through Miniclip, but eventually, that got shut down, too.
So, naturally, we did the next best thing: we started spending our time on RuneHQ. We'd read guides, look up quests, plan our next adventures, and figure out everything we wanted to do the next time we got the chance to log in. Before plugins, YouTube tutorials, and all the other resources we have today, RuneHQ was my go-to source for quest guides and just about anything RuneScape-related.
Looking back, it's amazing how much of my childhood was tied to this game and the community that surrounded it. RuneHQ was more than just a website. It was part of the experience. It helped fuel the excitement, curiosity, and friendships that made those early days of RuneScape so memorable.
It's bittersweet reminiscing about all of this, especially knowing the circumstances surrounding the site's closure and the loss of Deb and Gene. Thank you to everyone who put their time, effort, and passion into making RuneHQ what it was. You helped create something that became a small but lasting part of so many of our childhoods.
Twenty-six years is an incredible legacy. Thank you for the memories. You'll always be a part of my RuneScape story.
