#162820 Compliments

I would like to point out something to everyone today. Kate is a nice person. She is kind and helpful to others. She can be quite naïve at times, which is why it is easy to mess with her every now and then. Regardless, Kate is always fun to talk to when she is in our chatroom.
We are lucky to have Kate on RuneHQ, especially on staff. She tries to make our community a better place for everyone, and we cannot thank her enough for it. Thank you, Kate, for being such an outstanding member of our staff and community.

#103969 Infiltrating Jagex Studios

Posted by Darkblitz on 16 December 2012 - 04:13 AM

Hi everyone!

Last Friday I visited Jagex to have a look around and see how a games studio works and of course to get some sneak peeks at upcoming content. I met with the Community Management, Lore, Graphics, and Content departments. When I arrived at Jagex I was greeted at reception by Mod Mike, who would be my tour guide for the day. I was taken through the building and shown where all the different teams were placed, and was quickly introduced to a couple of people such as Mod Emilee and Mod Paul M.

After the introductory tour, we walked over to Mod Mike's team - Community Management. I met Mod Zach, Mod Sushi Pi, Mod Drebin, Mod Luiz and Mod Edu. Mod Mike showed me a wide range of tools that they have to support their players and, of course, to troll them in-game. We went to the Grand Exchange to unleash an army of snowmen and joined RuneHQ's clan chat to say hi.

Once we had caused enough chaos in-game, it was time for lunch. Their break area was really cool - a large room with gaming consoles and a restaurant serving up hot food for the cold Winter day. I sat with the guys from Community Management and they asked for feedback as both a player and a fansite staff member, such as how I felt about Jagex support on fansites and how they were doing in general with the RuneScape community. I was able to offer up ideas that would benefit us, and received instant feedback on whether it would work, if it wouldn't, or what some alternatives could be. It was a really good session and I'd say we both walked away with a lot more knowledge on how each side operates to serve the community.

My favourite part of any game is the story, and RuneScape is no exception. The next part of my tour is the one I was excited for the most: Lore discussion with Mod Osborne and Mod Sarah. Mod Osborne is the senior narrative designer and is responsible for making sure that all of the stories in RuneScape fit together. He's also one of the brains behind the penguin quest series! We ended up talking about anything and everything for what's coming up in the game over the next year, and it's looking to be an awesome and exciting year. Mod Osborne's passion for the game was amazing and I could have sat for hours just listening to what he had to say. He would be talking about one story, which would make him think of another good point and start talking about another story, and then I'd have a question which ignited a whole other story discussion - it was a lot to take in! I can't wait to see the events he mentioned come in to the game and I'm really excited to see how it's received by the community.

With our time up in the lore department, we moved on to the Graphics team. I was introduced to Mod Engstrom and he walked me through each team from concept art through to animation. I was lucky enough to see a piece of concept art in progress and watching someone polishing their prop design for an area. I also met an illustrator who draws for marketing purposes and was finishing up the now-visible Refer a Friend revamp graphic.

After the concept art has been finished, it moves on to the character modelling team where I met Mod Alec. He explained that it's their job to try and bring the concept art to life and get as close to the concept as possible. He showed off some cool characters they're working on for an upcoming release. I also met with Mod Stead in the environment team who showed off a graphical revamp they're working on which looked amazing - I wish it was already in game! The amount of detail they can get to these days is incredible.

Our last stop in the graphics department involved animators and interface designers. I was shown a few stock animations they put together for different models, both in-game and upcoming, each showing off a technique that made them special. The interface designers were interesting too, as there's a lot of decision making involved to give the player the best experience. I had a sneak peek of their current direction and work-in-progress plans and it's looking good.

The tour is almost up and the final department to check out was Content. I met with Mod Moltare who was able to show off a bit of Player-Owned Ports and talk about some of the ship names suggested and some of his design decisions. I also managed to slip my own name choices into the Player-Owned Ports ship editor before release! I then met with Mod Hunter and Mod Slayer to see the fearsome Kalphite King in action!

After a long day of non-stop action and all the secrets I could handle, the tour was finished. Everyone I met were really friendly and eager to share what they were working on to get some outside feedback or just to show the latest cool thing they made. The entire experience was awesome and I could easily go back for more. I hope you've all gained something out of this article and can learn a bit more about the mystical Jagex HQ. Thanks to Mod Mike for being a great host and the rest of Jagex for welcoming me and sharing your secrets!

#221378 Rednar's RuneFest Experience

Posted by Rednar on 14 October 2014 - 07:13 AM

England Airport

Very, very confusing, nearly got lost.

Early morning before RuneFest

We woke up at about 8:30AM, I got ready and already went downstairs to meet Corrie (Shadows) and Will (Bertie) while Teezkut was getting ready with his costume. I stood and waited outside for about an hour and 30 looking left right left right left right, because they were supposed to arrive with a taxi, AND THEN Corrie finally arrived, wow he was a lot shorter than I thought. We wanted to take a selfie together, and then Corrie realised that his camera was dead. So we went to the lobby, inside of hotel instead, because it was really cold outside, we sat inside and had a long talk when a taxi drove by and we were like "Oh is that a Bertie?", nope empty taxi just driving by, then Corrie pointed out that there was a guy walking by with a white t-shirt and a red RuneFest logo on it and guess who it was! Apparently the taxi driver dropped him off at the wrong place. So now we are waiting on Teezkut, it took him a while so we just went to check on him. When we entered the room he was just nearly done with putting on his costume and the girl with the Armadyl outfit was there aswell. After taking tons of pics of his Sirenic and Armadyl, we were on our way to Tobacco Dock (RuneFest)! On our way there we got a lot of honks, stares and pictures of his Sirenic and her Armadyl. Tobacco Dock was only about a km away from our hotel, it was like a 15 minute walk.

When we arrived at the RuneFest, there was no queue since we were already like an hour late. At the entrance we got ourselves a RuneFest bag with a load of stuff in it, a blue thing around your wrist and some thing around your neck.

Teezkut and the girl in the Armadyl costume (forgot name :() went somewhere else, leaving me with Corrie and Will. Before doing anything we went to buy a few merchandises before they will eventually run out of em. Since we were already super late, we went ahead to find the main stage, because the Old School RuneScape was about to start and didn't want to miss anything. After that was over, about 20 minutes later we wanted to go find the next session, which was about Lore, but we ended up being in the wrong room and had to look at the Shooting Star Quiz, which we don't regret looking at because it was hilarious! If you want to look at it yourself, they said they will upload a video of it on YouTube in the next couple of days.

After that we quickly wanted to do the Skilling Chips, because Will told me that last year they apparently ran out of chips. We had to do some challenges which are listed here:

After you got all the chips, it should look like this:

The box where you could keep these chips in was 12£ lol.

Next we went on the computers to claim our ingame RuneFest item, which I didn't because I got too distracted by the clan chat :P. But I later claimed it at my home.

It was a teleport animation which looks like this:

Also during the break we got hungry and decided to go out for a eat. The McDonald's was full of RuneFest people and there was even a queue going outside! So we just went to the gas station to get ourselves one of those triangle sandwiches.

It was already 3PM and time for another session on the main stage, which was RuneScape 2015. That was very fun and interesting aswell, again they will upload videos of the sessions on their YouTube channel.

I missed the The Golden Gnome Awards because I went to the Elf City session on the smaller stage, which was kind of boring. You could ask questions from the JMods that planned out the Elf City and half of the time it was just Will asking questions :P. The whole time I was thinking of a question aswell, but came up with NOTHING.

After the Elf City session we were about to be done, since all there was left was a Break and "Party time!". During the break we just took a load of pictures of JMods and us.

We also wanted concept art, so we went to the place where you could get em, but they said they have ran out and a JMod promised us that he will print out more. But he never did, but we got another JMod to ship them to us :D

Right next to us there was Oculus Rift which was AWESOME! For about 5-10 minutes you could use Oculus Rift to look at Elf City.

Also nearby there was a wall where you could write down your name.

And we wrote down ours!

And that was about it, all there was left was Party time, which we didn't really go to because it was super loud and A LOT of people were there

I also met Steve (Lilroo503) and we talked a bit. I also met James Rhodes, I was really happy to see him. If you want to see James' RuneFest experience, click HERE!

I'm not sure how much I've missed since I've already forgot nearly everything, the time just went so quickly. 2014 RuneFest was so fun and definetely will attend next year RuneFest!

Thanks for the read!

#151474 Koviana's Art Gallery

Posted by Koviana on 14 August 2013 - 12:13 AM

WARNING: Pictures get bigger on the way down. I use a 2000x2000 canvas to paint.

So, about a month ago, I started doodling on Paint. Something I never really took seriously. For once, I wanted to do a legit painting. I didn't think it would be possible because I use a trackpad... Sooooo... I gave it a try. Within an hour of starting my first painting, I finally finished. Below is what I made for the first time. :-) (sorry if the images are a bit big oh AND this was all done on a trackpad)

It may not have been the best detailed, but it came out 10x better than I thought it would. So I kept making more paintings. (Of my RuneScape character of course)

I then started taking requests from people. :)

(didn't finish)

And now, I love just painting my rs character alot. Mostly for my Youtube channel, lol.

Just finished this one. ^_^ Took me all night.

My favorite so far.

(not finished)

(not finished)

This art is a cover for a story I'm writing which you can check out at http://koviana.tumblr.com/ I post a new chapter every Saturday!

I was making this for my boyfriend, but my computer crashed and it didn't save, so all I have is this screenshot. :-(

The above was my first painting when I got my tablet, so it isn't in the best detail. :(

Not finished. :3

This painting was for the Sword Art Online painting contest on Mabinogi. (the game I play)

This was the last painting I did before my tablet broke in September 2014. It was requested from a friend of mine from Mabinogi. Mabi was having an SAO crossover.

This was to celebrate ONE YEAR of me starting digital paintings. I'm quite happy with the progress I have made in a year and I can't wait to learn more!

Currently taking a break from painting due to real life issues, so I'm not taking any requests right now, sorry. May possibly open an Art Shop in the future.

I do have some IRL paintings I've done, which I'll add later. ^o^

What do you guys think? :-) Oh, and if anyone has any requests, I'll gladly do them, teehee. Just nothing to hard pretty please. :-) I'm still learning. I plan to get a tablet soon, hopefully. So this should help me out.
