Getting Started

Welcome to the wonderful realm of Animal husbandry. Before you can begin, there are some simple things that you need to know.

Requirements

Location

The Player-Owned Farm can be found just North of East Ardougne. The best methods of arriving here are via the Lodestone network or with the Ardougne cape (2, 3, or 4).

Farm Map

Tutorial

Upon first arriving to the Manor Farm, you will want to speak to the old lady on the West side of the house. Talking with Granny Potterington, she will decide to make you her new Farm hold partner then set about teaching you the very basics of how to run the farm.

  1. After speaking with her, walk to the East side of the house and click on the roaming yak to pick it up then return to Granny Potterington and speak to her again. She will say her goodbyes to Jack then tell you to sell him to Prezleek.

  2. Walk to the South side of the well and speak with Prezleek (yak buyer). He will trade you 500 Beans for Jack. Return to Granny Potterington and tell her what you've obtained.

  3. She will inform you that the Beans you received are the currency that animals are bought and sold with. She will then instruct you to add them to your currency pouch. Click them and do so, then speak to Granny Potterington again.

  4. Next you learn a brief history of how the farm got into its current state and Granny Potterington's plan to help get it back to tip top condition. When she is finished talking, a window displaying the Farmers' Market will open. Buy the Small pen deed I (+materials), a Rabbit (doe), and a Rabbit (buck).

  5. Speak to Granny Potterington and she will tell you that you need to check the rabbits and build them a pen. Click on each of the bunnies, this will make it so that you know the various stats about them: Name, age, sex, traits, etc.

  6. Walk South to the 2 small pens and choose which you'd like to build first; it makes no difference which you choose. Once you have made your decision, click on the gate to build it. Once it is complete, click the gate again to open a window where you will be able to add and remove animals from that pen - add the 2 rabbits. Note that you can also use animals on the pen gates to add them.

  7. Once both rabbits are in the pen, click the gate again or click one of the rabbits. This will open a window that shows you all of the animal's stats as well as buttons to "Gather Produce", "Remove", and "Cure Disease". Clicking the arrow along the top left and right will allow you to scroll between animals. You will notice that one of your animals are sick. Click the "Cure Disease" button followed by the various "Check [area]" buttons. After you have investigated all the areas, you should know what illness your animal has so you can choose the correct treatment - in this case, it is the Flu.

  8. Return to Granny Potterington and will tell you about how to feed them before handing you some Fruity mush. Walk to the pen and click the trough, this will allow you to deposit a maximum of 60 pieces of food from your inventory. If you wish to add more than 60, you will need to climb into the pen (using one of the various planks (stile) located around the pens) and use the food on the trough.

  9. With the rabbits fed, speak to Granny Potterington once again. She will give you the option to pass the time quickly as your rabbits age to adulthood. Choosing to wait instead of skipping the time will take approximately 30 minutes.

  10. When the rabbits have reached adulthood, return to the pen and click on one of them or on the gate. Choose to "Gather Produce" then "Remove" with both of them. Speak to Granny Potterington briefly, then with the rabbits in your inventory, walk to the East side of the house and place them in the Breeding pen along with some food; this is the Northern of the 2 pens. Speak to Granny to have the option of skipping time until an offspring has been produced, otherwise you will need to wait 5-25 minutes.

  11. When a baby has been born, you will recieve an announcement that says "The animals in the [location] pen, have given birth to a healthy child." Check on the offspring and remove it from the pen, then go speak with Granny Potterington.

  12. You will ask her if it's just about rabbits here and what you do with them once bred. She will tell you that the rabbits are just the start and that Prezleek has probably spread the word so you will find buyers to sell your stock to. She will suggest that you speak to her before selling any animals, for tips to increase your sales, and to find out more about the Farmers' Market. This will complete the Tutorial.

Basic Information

Upon completion of the tutorial, you will have some Beans available to spend. It is highly recommended to start off with getting either a medium or large pen so you can get more animals on your farm. To build these pens, you need to buy a deed from the Farmers' Market then construct it with certain construction materials based on the size. Once you have it built, you can choose to buy basic sheep or cows from the Farmers' Market, go out in the wide world of Gielinor and obtain your chosen species personally, or to purchase unchecked variants from the Grand Exchange.

Be aware that animals can only be sold on the Grand Exchange and will stack in the bank if they are unchecked. Once you have checked the animal, it will take up its own slot within your bank and, while it cannot be sold on the Grand Exchange, it can be traded with players around you.

Clicking on either a paddock gate or an animal will open the animal interface. Within this new window there are several bits of information. At the very top in capital yellow letters you will see your animal's name. Clicking an arrow to either side of the window will enable you to scroll through all the animals in that pen. See the list below for more about the various information on the interface.

Animal Stats

  • Purple - The second tab along the top will change the interface so that you can add and remove animals to the paddock without closing the window. Using the "Remove" button at the bottom of this interface will always close the window and place the animal in your inventory.
  • Silver - This area provides a view of the animal in question and informs you of its age above it.
  • Dark Green - Here you will find several bits of information including what breed it is and which pen it belongs in. You will also see their Weight, Speed, and Attractiveness ratings. As of now, these stats do not matter. In the future there may be contests where animals are graded on these stats.
  • Light Blue - These bars inform you of the animal's Health and Happiness. Keeping these at higher levels increases the likelihood of the animal breeding.
  • Yellow - This tells you what types of food your animal will eat.
  • Red - traits are shown here. Clicking on one of them will give you a description of the trait.
  • Dark Blue - This is a random description added to each pet. It is just here for amusement.
  • Light Green - At each new Growth stage this button will become bright yellow. Clicking it will allow you to earn experience and (usually) gather resources from that animal.
  • Orange - When bright yellow, your pet will have an Illness. Clicking on it will enable you to check your animal's symptoms and cure it.

Caring for the Animals

Now that you know where to obtain all of the animals for your Player-Owned Farm, let us now go over how to take care of them all.

Pens

Once you have animals to care for, the first thing you will need is a pen to keep them in. 3 of the species will fit in each size pen and you can only purchase/create 2 of each size.

Small pens

Can hold up to 6 Rabbits, Chickens, or Chinchompas in each pen. Building these pens will earn you 600 Construction experience each. To build the pens you will need:

Medium pens

Can hold up to 4 Sheep, Spiders, or Zygomites in each pen. Building these pens will earn you 1,350 Construction experience each. To build the pens you will need:

Large pens

Can hold up to 3 Cows, Yaks, or Dragons in each pen. Building these pens will earn you 2,800 Construction experience each. To build the pens you will need:

Perks

On each of the pens you have the ability to add a Farm totem, purchased from the Farmers' Market (200 Beans). But what do those do? When an elder of any given species is placed into a pen with a totem attached to it, you will enable its tier 1 perk. Placing a second elder of the same species within your other pen and adding a Farm totem to it will enable the tier 2 perk. See the table below for what species can enable what perks.

Animal Perk Name Tier 1 Perk Tier 2 Perk
Rabbit Like Rabbits Breeding success increased by 7%. Breeding success increased by 10%.
Hen Headless Chicken A 3% chance to halve feathers used (minimum 1) when fletching arrows, darts, or bolts. A 5% chance to halve feathers used (minimum 1) when fletching arrows, darts, or bolts.
Rooster As the Rooster Crows A 7% drop chance increase to receive ghostly essence while fighting enemies that drop it, for a number of kills after hearing a rooster's crow. A 10% drop chance increase to receive ghostly essence while fighting enemies that drop it, for a number of kills after hearing a rooster's crow.
Chinchompa If Chins Could Skill A 3% chance to not lose a skillchompa when using them. A 5% chance to not lose a skillchompa when using them.
Ewe Have Ewe (Many Wool) Gain 2 pieces of wool on successful shearing. Gain 3 pieces of wool on successful shearing.
Ram Randomly Accessed Memories Gain memory strands from farming activities at 50% of the rate from Divination. Gain memory strands from farming activities at 75% of the rate from Divination.
Spider NopeNopeNope Increases damage against all spiders by 2% (including Araxxor/Araxxi). Increases damage against all spiders by 3% (including Araxxor/Araxxi).
Zygomite Uncapped Potential A 7% chance to yield an additional mushroom when gathering them from patches, clusters, or bloomed logs. A 10% chance to yield an additional mushroom when gathering them from patches, clusters, or bloomed logs.
Cow Milky, Milky All Cooking XP earned from churning is at 2x normal. All Cooking XP earned from churning is at 4x normal.
Bull Bully for You A 1 in 5 chance to not deplete a compost bin when collecting compost from it. A 1 in 3 chance to not deplete a compost bin when collecting compost from it.
Yak Nigel's Gift A 2% chance to find a clue scroll either when checking health in, or harvesting the last crop from any patch. A 2.5% chance to find a clue scroll either when checking health in, or harvesting the last crop from any patch.
Dragon Dragon Ultra Combo A 1/1000 chance to get an ancient effigy while checking a fully grown farming patch, only if ultracompost is used. A 1/750 chance to get an ancient effigy while checking a fully grown farming patch, only if ultracompost is used.

Perk Achievements

By placing specific species in each of your pens, you can also complete 2 achievements: Perk Up! and Perk Out! For both achievements you will need 1 Farm totem on each of your 6 pens.

Perk Up!

The aim for this achievement is to have 6 tier 2 perks active at once. Place 1 set of the following couples in each pen:

  • Small - Rooster and Hen
  • Medium - Ram and Ewe
  • Large - Bull and Cow

Perk Out!

The aim for this achievement is to have 9 tier 1 perks active at once. Place the following animals in each pen:

  • Small - Rooster and Hen
  • Small - Rabbit OR Chinchompa
  • Medium - Ram and Ewe
  • Medium - Spider OR Zygomite
  • Large - Bull and Cow
  • Large - Yak OR Dragon

Food

As learned during the tutorial, when you have animals in a pen you will need to add food to the trough for them to eat. If they are given the proper food, animals will heal slightly and become a little bit happier each time. In turn, failing to feed them will cause these stats to lower and for them to potentially become sick. Animals consume different amounts of food based on their pen size (see the table below).

Small PensMedium PensLarge Pens
Animal Food Consumption Rate Animal Food Consumption Rate Animal Food Consumption Rate
Chinchompas 1 food every 18 minutes Sheep 3 food every 36 minutes
(Averaging 1 food every 12 minutes)
Cows 6 food every 54 minutes
(Averaging 1 food every 9 minutes)
ChickensSpidersDragons
RabbitsZygomitesYaks

Each trough can hold a maximum of 1,000 pieces of food. These can be added noted or unnoted and from inside or outside of the pen. Clicking the trough will give you the option to select how much you wish to deposit. Adding food to a trough will automatically turn it to mush. As a result, you will not be able to reclaim any food put into them, but you can withdraw the mush created. Each animal will eat 1 or more type of mush. You can see these foods listed on the interface below the Health and Happiness bars. Or you can see the table below for which types they eat.

Be aware that Chinchompas only eat Variety mush. This is made by using 2 or more types of food on the trough. The amounts used do not make a difference, as soon as you add another type it will become Variety mush. This means it can be created with 999 various arc berries and 1 Raw shark or 6 Cooking apples, 64 Morchella mushrooms, and 1 Onion. The "recipe" does not matter. Alternatively, you can remove any mush from a pen, add it to the empty chinchompa trough, then remove it as Variety mush. The mush must be added and removed in a pen with Chinchompas for this to work.

Where to Obtain Food

Growth

Animals in the Player-Owned Farm will each progress from child to elder. The amount of time between ages, and the amount of Farming experience gained at each threshold, varies by species. Note that if you miss gathering experience and resources for one of the growing stages, you will still obtain it when you gather at the next one. For example, if you find a chicken egg in a pen and do not check it until it is an adolescent, you will receive both the 125 and 187.5 Farming experience, as well as any feathers and eggs as appropriate, when you gather the produce.

Also be aware that the experience value will alter depending upon the animal's Health and Happiness as well as boosts. The values for experience below are assuming that your animal is both 100% Happy AND Healthy and you do not have any boosts active. A sick animal with 0% Health and Happiness will only provide 10% of the harvesting experience. Please see the Health and Happiness section below for how to improve your animal's stats.

Health and Happiness

Opening an animal's interface will present you with two percentage bars just below their image. These bars let you know how happy and how healthy your animal is. Keeping these at higher levels increases the likelihood of the animal breeding. These bars are affected a few different ways: Honey and Milk, Food, and Illness.

Beehives and Milk

Though they are not obtained the same way, how you use these items and the functions they perform are similar. To use them on your animals, you will need to step into the pen with them and use the item on the specific animal. This will increase the appropriate stat(s) and consume the item. Note that diseased animals and eggs will not consume these items.

Beehives

To the far East side of the farm you may have noticed seven beehives. Here, you can place up to 27 of 5 different type flowers in the hives to create specialty honey. These honeys are created at a 1 flower to 1 honey ratio with 1 created every hour. Note that it is possible to use the full amount of each type flower on the hives, however, when you collect the honey it comes out in a random order. Due to this reason, it is suggested to stick to one type of flower in any given hive. Right clicking the hive you can choose to "Check flowers stored" to see how many and what type of flower(s) you have in each hive.

Beehives

In order to collect honey, you will need to use insect repellent on the hive - if you have not done so yet, you can add this item to your toolbelt. You will get a message telling you that you see the bees leaving. Clicking the hive will then give you the option to collect the honey or not. Choosing to not collect it will open the flower deposit interface. Collecting the honey will cause you to begin collecting the special honey and continue to do so until the hive is empty or your inventory is full.

    • Grown at 25 Farming, granting 20.5 experience to plant and 115.5 experience to harvest. It takes 20 minutes to grow and you will obtain 3 leaves when harvested.

Milk

While the honey above is actively created, Milk is a resource gathered from Strawberry and Vanilla cows. As such, the amount you can receive is limited per cow; up to 3 buckets if you fully raise the cow to Elder.

  • Strawberry milk
    • Obtained from Strawberry cows
    • Increase health 0-12%
    • Increase happiness 0-8%
    • On average, you will obtain about a 10% increase in stats total.
  • Vanilla milk
    • Obtained from Vanilla cows
    • Increase health 0-9%
    • Increase happiness 5-14%
    • On average, you will obtain about a 16% increase in stats total.

Note that you will also obtain Chocolatey milk from Chocolate cows, however, this milk does not affect the health or happiness of your animals.

Illness

Like animals encountered in the real world, animals in your Player-Owned Farm can become sick. Thankfully, treating your animals in Gielinor is far more simple. You will know that your animal is sick because the "Cure disease" button at the bottom right of their interface will become yellow and allow you to click it.

This will open a new interface which will allow you to check various parts of your animal and to administer treatment when you have discovered its ailment - you do not need any special items to treat your animals. Some illnesses have the similar symptoms, so be sure to check each body section. Thankfully, an animal cannot die due to their illness; but their health and happiness do lower as a result of it and they will not breed. Curing the animal will earn you 2 Farming experience.

If you administer the wrong treatment, the animal's health and happiness will drop. You will then be presented with the examining options again and your animal will have rerolled their symptoms. Despite displaying new symptoms, the illness will not have changed.

Most of the time animals will randomly become sick on their own, but it is possible to make your animals sick by failing to feed them. This comes in handy because in order to complete the "Animal Whisperer" task, you will need to cure 100 animals of their ailments. Animals with the Sickly trait, for example, are also more likely to fall ill.

Breeding

Now that you have your first few animals and you've raised them to adulthood, you can begin the arduous task of having them reproduce. Note that only Adults and Elders can breed and the breed type do not have to match to produce offspring - ie breeding a Crystal chinchompa with an Azure one will work. When you first start working on the Player-Owned Farm, your animals will only be able to mate within the breeding pen - the North Eastern most pen.

Here you will place 1 male and 1 female of your chosen species into the pen, ensure they are fully healthy and happy, have food in their trough, are not diseased, and then proceed to wait. After a certain amount of time, they will produce an offspring. It is suggested to promptly move it to a normal pen to grow. This is because the pen can only fit 4 animals in it. So once there are 4 in the pen, no more babies can be bred.

Breeding Pen

Later on it is possible to purchase the ability to breed within each size of the normal pens from the Farmers' Market - note that breeding outside of the breeding pen will take 1.5 (small), 2 (medium), or 3 (large) times the amount of time to produce offspring compared to using the Breeding pen. This means that the minimum amount of time it can take to produce a rabbit in the small pen is 7.5 minutes instead of 5 minutes.

Unlike the Breeding pen, the normal pens also do not have "Failure Mitigation". This is where after 5 failed breeding attempts are made, you are guaranteed to have your animals breed. You can increase your chances of breeding by enabling the tier 1 or tier 2 Rabbit perk and by using animals with the Studly and/or Virile traits.

Be aware that placing 2 animals of the same sex within a breedable pen may still "produce" offspring. In this situation, the animals will "have decided to raise a child together and have adopted a baby". It is not SUPER common to occur, but it is still possible. This method of "breeding" is not affected by the failure mitigation mechanic.

It is possible to keep track of which animal breeds you have produced in 2 ways. Firstly, you can view the breeding log by clicking on the dog next to Granny Potterington, Sam the sheepdog. Or you can pick up a copy of the Manor Farm breeding log from the table just inside the Manor. Depending on your settings, adjusted via the cog in the top right of the window, you can click on any of the animal breeds and announce if you have or have not managed to breed it. All animals bred will appear vividly colored, while unbred ones will be faded out.

Breeding Log

When you obtain a "shiny" breed of an animal, you will need to wait until it is an adolescent before you can see the difference within the pen and animal interface. If the animal is in your bank, inventory, or a trade window, it will look like a normal animal of that species, but you will see "Shiny!" written just below the sex if you hover over it. Note that using a shiny animal to breed will not increase your chances of obtaining another shiny animal. You will still need the appropriate traits to increase your chances.

Special Breeding Times

Some species need to be bred under certain conditions, these include:

  • Black Ewe/Ram and Night spiders can only be bred between 9pm and 9am game time.
  • Kandarin cows with "touch of vanilla", "strawberry scent", or "chocolatey goodness" traits that are bred have a chance to produce a vanilla cow, strawberry cow, or chocolate cow respectively.
  • Some animals can only be bred during the appropriate season (changed via the Seasonaliser or as the year naturally progresses) - though there is still slight chance to get one of these during a different season if one of the parents are that breed.
    • Spring
      • Springsheared sheep
      • Fever spider
    • Summer
      • Summerdown sheep
      • Giant spider
    • Autumn
      • Fallfaced sheep
      • Corpse spider
    • Winter
      • Winterwold sheep
      • Ice spider
  • Royal dragons MUST have Poison, Frost, and Shock breaths among the traits of their parents to be produced. They do not need to all be on one dragon.

When breeding, the most helpful traits include the following...

  • Shiny, Glistening, and Radiant - Increase your chances of producing a "Shiny" breed. Note that the chances stack so having 1 of each will give you a 10% increase.
  • Good Breeding - Increased chance of producing different breeds.
  • Genetic Instability and Genetic Mutation - Increased chances offspring will have multiple traits.
  • Studly and Virile - Increased chances of breeding.
  • Charmed, Immune, Jovial, Joyful, and Robust - Increased Health and/or Happiness
  • Frost, Poisonous, and Shock Breaths - NECESSARY to be able to produce a Royal dragon. Do not need to all be on one dragon. Recommended to still use Shiny/Glistening/Radiant traits along with the breaths as they do not increase the chances of obtaining a Royal dragon, they just make it possible.

After completing the breeding log, one of the most efficient trait setups for attaining beans and produce consistently would be a breeding pair where both have the Immune and Joyful traits (to maximize experience and harvest output), and then picking traits like Nice but Dim or Producer traits on them depending on what the player is most looking to gain from the pair. Because the odds of the offspring having a trait from the parents is high, these benefits will generally pass onto the offspring to maximize your gains.

Time

As mentioned before, the breeding pen has a failure mitigation mechanic. This guarantees that you will have to wait no more than 5 breeding cycles before you will obtain an offspring, assuming there is space within the breeding pen. Each species' breeding cycle lasts a differing amount of time. Thus you could be waiting 5 minutes for a baby or up to a week. Once you have purchased the ability to have animals breed outside the breeding pen it is still suggested that you used it. In addition to being another place where the animals can breed, they are 5 times less likely to successfully breed a baby in any other pen, their breeding cycle functions as 5 times larger in other pens, and the failure mitigation mechanic does not apply to the other pens. The table below displays the data for breeding within the breeding pen.

Animal Breeding Cycle Maximum Breeding Time
Rabbit 5 minutes 25 minutes
Chicken 50 minutes 4 hours and 10 minutes
Sheep 1 hour and 40 minutes 8 hours and 20 minutes
Cow 5 hours 1 day and 1 hour
(25 hours)
Chinchompa 2 hours and 30 minutes 12 hours and 30 minutes
Spider 3 hours 15 hours
Yak 6 hours and 40 minutes 1 day, 9 hours, and 20 minutes
(33 hours and 20 minutes)
Zygomite 8 hours and 20 minutes 1 day, 17 hours, and 40 minutes
(41 hours and 40 minutes)
Dragon 16 hours and 40 minutes 3 days, 11 hours, and 20 minutes
(83 hours and 20 minutes)

Selling

Now that you have produced some offspring, you will need to sell them to the appropriate buyer. When selling animals, not every animal will gain you the same amount of beans. Though you can sell at any age, for all species, Adolescence is the age that will award you the most beans. See the table below for base bean prices you will earn for each age group.

Around the well you will notice various NPC. These are who will purchase your animals.

  • The person along the North will buy 12 animals from your Small pens and reset daily.
  • To the West is the person who will buy 8 Medium pen animals and reset every other day.
  • And on the South is the Large pen buyer who will purchase 6 animals and reset every 3 days.

The buyer who will show up when a location resets is initially based upon what animals you have in the associated size pens. If the pen is empty, it will default to the lowest level animal for the size. If the pens have different types of animals in them, however, you have an even chance of either one showing up.

Alternatively, you can speak to Granny Potterington about Contract options to have the opportunity to advertise that you are are looking for a specific buyer. These are done for each pen size individually and can be reset to the standard game mechanic by speaking with her again.

Animal Buyer Age
Egg Baby Adolescent Adult Elder
Rabbit Myfi (rabbit buyer) X 5 25 21 17
Chicken Henrietta (chicken chaser) 4 8 40 34 28
Sheep Ralph (sheep hugger) X 16 80 68 56
Cow Milkshake (cow fancier) X 34 170 144 119
Chinchompa Mieliki Tapio (chinchompa collector) X 50 250 213 175
Spider Rumbleguts (spider shopper) 25 50 250 213 175
Yak Prezleek (yak buyer) X 150 750 638 525
Zygomite Zoe (zygomite trader) X 187 850 722 595
Dragon Raptor (dragon expert) 200 400 2,000 1,700 1,400

Note that beyond age, there are several other factors that influence the amount of beans you will receive for each animal sold. From lowest to highest, these include:

  • -10% - Nice but Dim trait
  • -5% - Surly trait
  • -2% - Limited Effency trait
  • +2% - Lucky trait
  • +5% - Unlucky for Some trait
  • +5% - Animal farmer outfit
  • +10% - Master farmer outfit
  • +10% - Fortunate trait
  • +10% - Buyer's desired breed
  • +10% - Buyer's desired trait
  • +25% - Buyer's desired breed and trait
  • +52% - Highest possible bonus - Lucky, Unlucky for Some, and Fortunate traits + Master farmer outfit + desired breed and trait

Alternatively, you can sell any animal to Baby Shakes, a baby troll found on Granny Potterington's porch. This baby troll will happily purchase any animal for 10% of the price that a normal animal buyer would. This provides players with a way to sell animals when the buyer they need is not present, as unlike other buyers, Baby Shakes is always there.

While Baby Shakes is the official name of this person, his name varies. Every time he buys an animal from a player, he will say, "YUM! Me like [animal name]!" The troll's name will then become the name of the animal he was just sold, similar to the way the Baby troll pet's name functions. For example, if a player were to sell Baby Shakes a Bull named Bernie, the troll's name would become Bernie.

Manure

As odd as it may seem, in this activity manure is more of a bonus than an annoying pile of waste. Well, in some of the cases at least it is. The droppings of animals in your small pens are simply a method of obtaining a small amount of continuous experience - 20 xp per action for up to 20 actions. Sheep, Cows, Yaks, and Dragons, however, produce actual manure that can be turned into various levels of compost. Spiders and Zygomites never produce any type of droppings.

Collecting Manure

To collect any of these manures, you will need an empty bucket to pick it up in. From there, add 15 of them (or several of them and several items that will also make that grade of compost - totaling 15) to a compost bin and shut the lid. You will then need to wait until the compost has finished rotting before you can collect 15 buckets of it.

Note that unlike normal Compost and Supercompost, Ultracompost must be comprised entirely of manure.

Manure Type Experience Collecting Manure Source(s) Compost Produced
Manure 50 Sheep, Cow, Yak Compost
Green manure 120 Sheep, Cow, Yak, Dragon Supercompost
Dragon manure 500 Dragon (Adolescent+ only) Ultracompost

Cleaning up 20 piles of (either type) manure from within a cow pen will also complete the "I Hardley Manure" task. Beyond this task and creation of composts, there is no need to clean up the various droppings unless the red dots are annoying you. Leaving them in the pens does not affect breeding in any way. And while it is a temporarily continuous source of experience, there are far superior ways to obtain it.

Resources

Upon reaching a new growth stage, animals will typically give you resources in addition to the experience discussed earlier. The exception to this rule is that Chickens, Spiders, and Dragons will never give resources when they hatch. All resources are obtained when animals reach Adolescent, Adult, and Elder age. The following is the amount of produce obtained without any boosts, such as the Unlucky for Some trait.

Manure Mound

On the Northern East side of the Manor itself, you will see a large mound of manure. You will continuously turn the mound until your arms become tired and you automatically stop, earning 2.5 Farming experience every few seconds. While it is a poor source of experience, it is a good location to obtain Strange rock, Golden rock, Master farmer fragments, as well as Mod Daze's homework and Mod Dolan's rubber duck.
