The Lighthouse North of the Barbarian Outpost.
To Start:
Speak to Larrissa.
Instructions:
  1. To start this quest, you'll need to go to the Lighthouse. This is a place far north of Ardougne and west of the Fremennik Province. First, go to the Barbarian Outpost, then head north over some basalt rocks until you reach the Lighthouse. Talk to Larrissa in order to start the quest.

    Step 1

  2. Larrissa will tell you that Jossik, the Lighthouse-keeper, hasn't shown himself for a while. She'll give you two tasks. First you need to fetch the key from her cousin, Gunnjorn. Second, you need to repair the bridge so she can escape from the Lighthouse island.

  3. Go back to the Barbarian Outpost (for this you need to have 35 Agility and have done the Alfred Grimhand Bar Crawl) and go inside the agility course. Talk to Gunnjorn (he's between the obstacles) and after a short conversation he'll give you the key to the lighthouse.

    Step 3

  4. Return to the Lighthouse and go east. After a while you'll come at a bridge. Use the planks on both sides of the bridge to repair it. Now you've sort of fixed the bridge.

    Step 4

  5. Head back to Larrissa and talk to her. She'll ask you to go inside and see what has happened. Go inside and talk to her again. She'll ask you to fix the light.

  6. Go up the stairs once and then search the bookcase. Take all three books. Now read all three books.

    Step 7

  7. Proceed to the next floor and use the swamp tar on the lighting mechanism. Next use your tinderbox on it. At last, use your molten glass on the mechanism. Now it'll work again!

    Step 7

  8. Go back to Larrissa and tell her what you did. She'll ask you to find out about Jossik. Go down the ladder and proceed to the strange wall. Use the 4 runes, the sword and the arrow on it.

    Step 8a

    Step 8b

  9. Now prepare for battle! You can bring one combat style (melee only, for example), but if you want to finish the monster quickly you should bring more combat styles. Advised is to bring a bow and arrows, a melee weapon and offensive spells of all 4 elements. It is also advised to bring some pieces of armor. Fill up the rest with food.

  10. Go back to the wall and pass through the door which is to the right of the wall. Talk to Jossik and he'll tell you about the monster he saw and a Dagganoth will appear.

    Step 10

  11. Kill him with whatever combat style you fancy. Even though he's level 100, he's not hard to defeat. Continue talking to Jossik and he'll tell you about the Dagganoth's mother. Take this time to read the combat strategies mentioned below.

    Step 11

  12. Now it's time to fight the Dagganoth Mother! There are two strategies for doing this (NOTE that proceeding in this battle using Melee and Range are very risky due to the amount of time the mother takes to change form)

If you've brought all combat styles (including the 4 elemental spell types), you can simply change combat style every time the Dagganoth Mother changes color. Below is a list of colors versus combat styles.

    Color Combat Style
    Brown Earth Spells
    Red Fire Spells
    Green Ranged
    White Air Spells
    Blue Water Spell
    Orange Melee
Don't auto-cast magic spells, but use them on her individually. This will make the style changing go much smoother. The Dagganoth Mother changes colour every 19 seconds. Continue until she is dead.

If you haven't brought all combat styles, but only one or two (for example), you should head to the north-east part of the cavern. There are stalagmites which you can use to ensure you won't get hit if you can't attack her. Wait until her color changes to a style which you can use, and then go on until she changes color again. It takes longer than the first way, but it can be much safer too. Continue until she is dead.

    Step 12

  13. After you've killed her, you'll be teleported outside. Congratulations! Quest Complete! You can use the cave in the future to kill Dagganoths!

    Quest Complete

  14. Jossik will speak to you about the rusty casket you've found. Proceed upstairs two times and then talk to Jossik. He'll investigate the casket and will ask you what it says. This is the time to choose which god book you want. Say the name of your god twice and Jossik will give you a damaged book of the god you named.

Damaged Books?

These books act like shields, as you can equip them in the shield spot. To complete your Damaged Book, you'll need to add torn pages 1, 2, 3 and 4 to it. These are Treasure Trails Rewards. After you do this, it'll become a completed book of which god you chose. All completed books have different bonuses. Here is a list of books and their bonuses:

Name Bonuses
Damaged book (All) +5 to Prayer
Unholy book (Zamorak) +8 to all Attack stats, +5 to Prayer
Holy book (Saradomin) +8 to all Defence stats, +5 to Prayer.
Book of Balance (Guthix) +4 to all Attack and Defence stats, +5 to Prayer
