So you need to post a screen shot of your latest kill? Or maybe you need some graphics to add to your guide? But you are not sure how to take a screen shot or screen capture. Well look no further as this is the guide to help you.

Taking the Screen Capture in Windows:

  1. Get whatever you want captured on screen and viewable.
  2. Press the Print Screen button - Normally this is located next to your F12 button

Another option is to press ALT + Print Screen. This will take a snapshot fo the active window only. This will help keep the graphic limited to the main screen you are working with. So less cropping later.
  3. Open up Paint or MS Paint - Normally Start --> Programs -->Accessories
  4. Paste the screen capture into the program - You can do this by either:
    • Choosing Edit --> Paste from the menu
    • Pressing CTRL + V as a keyboard shortcut

  5. A text box may come up saying that, "The image you wish to paste is too large to fit into the paint screen. Would you wish to enlarge the paint screen to allow image to fit?" If so, press YES
  6. Save your screen capture and your are done

Now often times, you get more that you really wanted. If you want to eliminate the extra areas, you will need to crop your image. Cropping your Screen Capture:

  1. Open your screen capture graphic in Paint or MS Paint.
  2. In the toolbox to the left, the "Select" tool will be highlighted. You will use this tool cut out just what you want from your graphic. Click on the "Select" tool once to make sure everything has been cleared before your begin.
  3. Use this tool to draw a square/rectangle around the area you want to keep.
  4. Copy the area inside the square/rectangle - You can do this by either:
    • Choosing Edit --> Copy from the menu
    • Pressing CTRL + C as a keyboard shortcut

  5. Start a new file - You can do this by either:

  6. Paste this into the program - You can do this by either:
    • Choosing Edit --> Paste from the menu
    • Pressing CTRL + V as a keyboard shortcut

  7. A text box may come up saying that, "The image you wish to paste is too large to fit into the paint screen. Would you wish to enlarge the paint screen to allow image to fit?" If so, press YES.
  8. If that message is not displayed, the background (the white area in the back) may be too large. You will need to shorten the white of the page so there is no white showing. Click on the "Select" tool once to make sure everything has been cleared before your begin.
  9. You should see little black squares around the outside edge of the white background box. Click and drag one of the corner boxes until the white background fits perfectly around your graphic (so the white background is the same size as the graphic your pasted).
  10. Now you must save your graphic. - You can do this by either:
    • Choosing File --> Save from the menu
