In order to open a citadel, five RuneScape members must go to the clan camp and talk with Avalani by the entrance portal. These five players will take part in a ritual by standing on the five glyphs around the portal to create the citadel.
Once you have created your citadel, you can interact with the entrance portal, giving you two options, visit your own citadel or visit another citadel. When you enter a citadel, either your own or visiting another, you are placed in the welcome area.
Citadels have a weekly upkeep that must be paid to stop it from downgrading, this upkeep is paid in resources, gathered by clan members working at the various skill plots. Should enough clan members contribute each week the citadel will not only maintain its current tier it may even be allowed to upgrade. There are seven tiers of the clan citadel, each tier offering new skill plots or upgrades to old ones.
Before a clan member can help towards the upkeep and upgrade of the clan citadel, they must pass a probation period of one week. Any members of the clan who joined before the first build tick or prior to creating the citadel are exempt from this rule. Players who are on their probation can still visit the citadel and take part in activities within the citadel, but cannot gather resources.
There are three new interfaces when you enter the citadel, that can only be accessed while in the citadel.
To access the management interface for the citadel, while inside the citadel click on the castle icon next to the minimap. There are four tabs that can be used to navigate around this interface some require a PIN to access, there is also a fifth option to take you to the job list interface. Some of the tabs require a PIN to access. There is also some information that remains constant across all the interfaces, this is the Build Tick and Visitor Count.
| Name | Description |
| Build tick | This timer represents the amount of time remaining before the citadels weekly update. This is when the layout changes occur. The citadel can also dilapidate if there was not enough clan member activity. |
| Visitor Count | This counter represents the amount of clan members who have visited the citadel since the last build tick. With each tier in the citadel, more members will be required to visit. If the number is green, then all requirements have been met to upkeep and upgrade. A yellow number means not enough to upgrade the citadel. A red number means there have not been enough clan members to visit to make upkeep. |
Map
This is the default interface when opening the management interface, here you can view the layout of the citadel, teleport to any of the various plots that are currently available in your citadel. With the right clan permissions you can also change the citadel layout and swap between night and day, Changing these options will not update the citadel instantly, rather it will queue the changes up and when the next weekly build tick happens the citadel will update. With each tier of the citadel you gain access to more Skill plots and Hotspots. See the table below:
| Citadel Tier | Plots & Hotspots |
| Tier 1 Tier 2 |
|
| Tier 3 Tier 4 |
|
| Tier 5 Tier 6 |
|
| Tier 7 |
|
There are also five more hotspots around the entry portal, these are statue hotspots, all five are available from tier one, however you cannot start to build statues on them until you unlock stone at tier two. Any changes made to the citadel's layout can be canceled prior to the weekly build tick by pressing the Revert button.
Building
The building tab has all the options to upgrade the plots and structures inside the citadel. It is broken down into a list of each individual structure which you can click for four more options:
| Option | Description |
| Weekly upkeep | Shows the required resource cost to maintain the structure. In the event this cost is not met, the structure can dilapidate. |
| Upgrade details | Shows the required resource cost for upgrading the structure, or what it would cost to build it. |
| Downgrade details | Shows what the resource cost of upkeep would be if the structure was downgraded. |
| Additional Options | Allows structures to be moved, as well as a button to the Job List interface. |
Customization Builder
The customization tab lets clan leaders and any clan rank with the correct permissions customize the entire citadel; up to three customizations can be done per build tick. For almost all structures there are three versions: Basic, Medium and Grand. The only requirement to build these is the resource cost to upgrade them. These structures can also be upgraded straight to the grand versions with out having to upgrade through the lower versions. As you progress through the tiers of the citadel, you gain access to more hotspots.
At the entry portal there are 5 statue hotspots. A variety of statues can be built here and each statue is built individually meaning up to five different status can be on display at the entry point to your citadel. This tab requires you to enter your bank PIN to access it.
Resources
The resource tab lets you see all the information about the types of resources in the clan, it also requires PIN entry to access.
This tab also allows clan members with the correct permissions to set the goal for a particular plot, lock that plot on target or just manual lock the plot should their be no need for that particular resource.
| Types of resources | ||||

| Precious Ore | Precious Bars | Cloth | Rations | Minions |
* Minions can work towards any resource.
To access the job list interface you must first open the citadel management interface, then click the fifth tab along the top near the middle of the interface, this will bring you to a new interface. This interface helps you manage the Upkeep (coin tab), Upgrades (up arrow) and Downgrades (down arrow), as well as an option to go back to the citadel management interface.
Clicking on the individual jobs gives you a color coded report of the current resources required to complete the job, as well as the resources gained from previous build ticks.
| Color | Description |
| Blue | The amount of resources gathered in previous weeks. |
| Green | The amount of resources gathered so far for the current week. |
| Red | The amount of resources that are still required to complete the selected job. |
| Yellow | The amount of resources gathered by the minions from the summoning plot. |
The personal interface can be accessed by clicking on the icon between your prayer book and friends list, it has an image of a castle on it. This is where each clan member can see their personal weekly resource cap.
The top of this interface displays the selected job, and the current tier of the plot. Just below that you can see the types of resources available from the selected plot, and how much of that resource you as a single clan member and your clan as a whole have gathered. You can also see if the plot is locked or unlocked. At the bottom of this display you can see your personal resource cap and depending on your citadels tier, a number of smaller icons, clicking between these icons lets you view each skill plots current resource status.
Clan citadels consist of seven skill plots, unlocked through various citadel tier upgrades. Citadel skill plots are where clan members can gather resources that can be used to upgrade and maintain the citadel and all of its structures. All skill plots require no tools or minimum level, however the higher the relevant skill level, the more experience you will gain. It is also possible to receive Strange rocks from skill plots.

Clan members can work on this plot by cutting the roots of the enchanted Hornbeam Tree, doing so will contribute towards the clans timber resource. When you click on a root it will automatically cut the root until it is depleted. It will take some time for the root to grow back, so move onto another root in the meantime. Increasing the tier of the plot will increase the amount of timber produced per root. It will also increase the Woodcutting xp you gain. Note: You can wear the lumberjack outfit here to increase your Woodcutting xp.
Clan members can work on this plot by Mining various veins around the plot. Stone (grey vein), Ore (silver vein) and Precious ore (Gold vein), doing so will contribute towards the resources. Ore and Precious ore are not directly used in upgrading the citadel, they first require processing into their respective bars before they can be used, while stone is used as a resource with no processing required. Increasing the tier of the plot adds more veins to mine, as well as increase the rate the ore/stone is produced. It will also increase the Mining xp you gain. Tier 3 gives access to metal ore and Tier 4 gives access to precious ore. Note: You can wear the Golden mining outfit here to increase your Mining xp.
Clan members can work on this plot by shoveling timber into all sides of the kiln, once all sides are full the kiln will empty and you can start filling the kiln all over again. Charcoal, like the ores, is not directly used in upgrading the citadel, it is used as fuel in the furnace to make the bars. Gathering Timber from the woodcutter plot is not a requirement of making charcoal. Increasing the tier of the plot increases the amount of kilns to fill, as well as the rate charcoal is produced. It will also increase the Firemaking xp you gain. Note: Wearing the Flame gloves or Ring of fire does not increase your Firemaking xp.
Clan members can work on this plot by performing one of 3 tasks:
- Shoveling ore into the furnace on both sides, once both sides are full, the furnace will pour molten metal into the bar mould.
- Transferring the bars from the mould to the water trough for cooling until the trough is full and the mould is empty.
- Transferring the now cooled bars from the water trough to the hatch in the floor. Once the water trough is empty you can start over.
To do this you need ore or precious ore from the mining plot and charcoal from the firemaking plot, precious bars can only be made from a tier four citadel or higher. Increasing the tier of the plot adds a second furnace as well as increase the rate the bars are produced. It will also increase the Smithing xp you gain.
Clan members can work on this plot by interacting with the loom, each looms need to be depleted before they reset. Increasing the tier of the plot will add more looms as well as increase the rate the cloth is produced. It will also increase the Crafting xp you gain.
Clan members can work on this plot by summoning minions. To summon a minion you need to interact with the glowing obelisk in one of the four corners of the plot. Minions are unlike the other resources, they are not required for any one specific upgrade/upkeep in the citadel. Instead they can be used as a substitute for any other resource.
Note: This plot also works a bit differently than the others, while you are free to use your entire cap on all the plots in the citadel, the summoning plot restricts you to only 10% of your total cap.
Clan members can work on this plot by cooking one of three dishes, each of these are independent of the others.
- Grilling fish on the barbeque.
- Preparing raw fish for cooking/
- Making vegetable stew.
Increasing the tier of this plot will add more cooking stations as well as increase the rate rations are produced. It will also increase the Cooking xp you gain.
Storehouse
The storehouse has 2 functions:
- Individual resource caps for clan members.
- The amount of surplus resources that can be carried over to the next build tick.
Individual resource cap
Every clan member has their own personal resource cap that resets with the build tick, this limits the amount of work any individual can do for the clan each week. You can view your current contributions to the clan in the production interface. The resource cap applies to the entire citadel, so you could use your entire cap on a single plot, or spread it around on all the different plots in the citadel. With each tier the storehouse increases, the individual resource cap increases.
Resource Spoiling
Any resources that are left over at the end of a week will spoil, this excess is removed from the total resources and lost.
Not all resources are subject to the carry over percentage and maximum cap per resource in the table below. Timber, Stone, Cloth and Rations are subject to the below percentages. Metal bars and Precious bars are subject to one third of the below percentages.
Charcoal, Ore, Precious ore and Minions spoil regardless of what tier the store house is.
| Storehouse Tier |
Individual Resource cap |
Carry over Percentage |
Max cap Per resource |
| 1 | 1000 | 5% | 1000 |
| 2 | 1200 | 10% | 1200 |
| 3 | 1400. | 15% | 1500 |
| 4 | 1700 | 20% | 1800 |
| 5 | 2000 | 25% | 2100 |
| 6 | 2350 | 30% | 2500 |

When a clan reaches citadel tier seven, they are able to create a customized clan dragon. When creating your dragon you can choose between green, red, blue, black or frost as its color. The dragon requires: 500,000 rations, 200,000 cloth, and 100,000 precious bars
The citadel battlefield is a safe area, if players die during a match they will not lose any items. To access the battlefield you need to speak with the battlemaster, clan members with the appropriate permission levels will be able to either edit, initiate and enter battles. Next to the battlemaster is a crate of capes that players can obtain a battlefield cape from, this crate can also be used to access their bank.
Clan members can also use the battlefield power ups to get a +10 boost in Summoning, Agility, or Magic. This is very helpful for opening ancient effigies.
The clan member who is starting the battle, uses the battle interface to set the rules for the match. When the rules have been confirmed, the battlefield is created and all participating players are sent to the field. There is a short timer before the battle starts where no fighting occurs, once it has counted down, the battle begins. To finish a battle, all conditions that were set by the creator must be met.

Editing the battlefield
Clan members who have high enough permissions in the citadel can speak to the Battlemaster and edit the clan's battlefield. (a maximum of five people can edit at any one time).
To edit the battlefield you will be placed in an editable battlefield where you can edit objects already in place, delete them or add new objects to the field. Up to 200 objects can be placed on the battlefield in any order or combination, objects can be selected from the menu and placed on the field by clicking a square on the grid. Some objects allow you to click and drag to place multiples of them.
The interface can be dismissed by clicking the X button in the top right corner, allowing you to look around the field at what you have created. To return to the editing interface, you only need to click the Editor button in the top left corner of the screen.
Upon entering your own citadel or visiting a friends citadel you will be welcomed to the citadel by the welcome area. Here players can talk to Avalani who will give you a handbook for more information about the citadel and the Artisan who can help you assist you in customizing your citadel. The welcome area has two other points of interest.
Noticeboard
Clan members can access the noticeboard in the citadel welcome area and down in the clan camp, the noticeboard's allow you to view the current primary resource the clan is gathering. The noticeboards will show you the clan colors, clan logo, the clan motto and any upcoming clan events. Clan members with appropriate permissions can administrate the noticeboard from this interface.
Signpost
The signpost is located in the welcome area of the clan citadel, it is used to manage and display the clans relationships with other clans.
Clan members with the appropriate permissions can administrate the signpost from this interface. All new relationships will start as neutral, and can be modified in the settings tab after selecting the relationship you wish to edit. If the clan that you add to the signpost has a citadel an icon to teleport to their citadel will appear and when clicked will transport you to their citadel welcome area.
Party room
The party room is available from tier three onwards, it has a dance floor, places for people to sit and from tier four onwards a lever when pulled will drop balloons onto the dance floor. These balloons drop various party related items, Confetti, Fireworks and bubble makers. The party room can not be used like the Falador party room, as you can not place your own items to be in the balloons loot, however it is still a popular place to have traditional drop parties where players drop the items straight onto the floor.
Meeting rooms
There are a few meeting rooms around the clan citadel
- A large tent in the welcome area
- Two small meeting rooms next to the party room
- A large senate on the ground floor of the keep.
- A large tent in the clan camp.
The smaller meetings rooms can hold up to 10 people, and can be set to private or public meetings. Private areas are restricted to certain clan member ranks, as set by the meeting creator, while public meetings allow any clan member to enter and talk. The clan member who created the meeting may also invite non clan members into the meeting by use of the master invitation, which expires 15 minutes after being issued. While you can invite as many people to the meeting as you want, only 10 can enter at any one time. The senate is a large room on the ground floor of the citadel keep, a good place to hold large public meetings as players can come and go as they see fit.
Clan Theatre
The theatre is available from tier five of the citadel and onwards, here players can perform many unique emotes, both on stage and in the audience. A maximum of 250 players can enter the theatre at any one time.
Banks
The citadel has two banks where clan members can access their banks and collect items from the Grand Exchange, these are located on the ground floor of the Citadel by talking to the Head Guard and the cape box at the entrance to the Battlefield.
The citadel rewards its members in various ways, both the ability to gain free xp by working on the skill plots, and items that grant bonus xp in various skills.
Clan Ring
Once a clan member has gathered enough resources for the citadel (around 50% of their weekly cap) they can talk to the Quartermaster and claim an Uncharged ring. This ring can be taken to any of the skill plots within the citadel and charged to gain a 50% bonus of that skill while skilling on the surface. How much bonus xp given, depends on the players level in the skill and the tier of the citadel plot that it was charged at.

Clan cloak
The clan cloak is a cape that shows the clan colors and logo. It can be obtained as soon as you have joined a clan, by talking to the Captain of the Guard in the clan camp. The clan cloak can also provide an experience boost when working on skill plots in the citadel, this boost is determined by your fealty rank.
- Rank 1 - Grants a 15% experience bonus
- Rank 2 - Grants a 30% experience bonus
- Rank 3 - Grants a 45% experience bonus
Each week a clan member meets the requirements for the clan ring, their Fealty rank will increase by 1. Failing to meet the requirements for a clan week in a given week will result in Fealty rank lowering by 1. At fealty rank 3, once a week you can right click the clan cloak and select "Fealty Reward" to claim an experience reward.
Every upgradable building in the citadel has an upkeep and an upgrade cost.

If your citadel has the right conditions, you are able to have a Clan Avatar, which can gather resources and provide buffs to clan members within range. However, it can be attacked in PvP situations.
Only clan members with the title 'Avatar Warden' will be able to summon and interact with a Clan Avatar. Those with this permission will be able to fill the buff slots of the clan avatar, customise your avatar's appearance and remove the habitat.
Habitat:
Before you can get an avatar for your clan, you'll need to make somewhere for them to live. Select the Customisation builder tab and click the red dot for the habitat (near the Town Square). From here, choose 'Avatar Habitat' from the customisation options. To build your habitat, you'll need some resources:
- Basic - 3,000 timber for 1 avatar
- Medium - 30,000 timber and 30,000 precious bars for 2 avatars
- Grand - 30,000 timber, 30,000 precious bars and 30,000 rations for 3 avatars
Buffs:
To benefit from the clan avatar's buffs, each individual will need to pay 300 anagogic orts to the avatar, which will buy a week's access to its clan-boosting benefits. These items are non-tradable, but they can be gathered as drops from monsters throughout RuneScape, as well as during skill training - so long as you're a member of a clan. Here is a list of all the available buffs:
| Buff | Effect |
| Heal Over Time | Heals a small amount of life points over time. |
| Familiar Faces | Doubles the amount of time for which a familiar can be summoned. |
| Auto Ort | Your avatar will try to place orts in your inventory when they would have dropped on the floor. |
| Skill Plot Bonus | Gain 10% more resources from skill plots in the citadel. |
| Skilling Bonus | A 3% XP boost for clan mates on the same world as the avatar, and a 6% XP boost to those in range of the avatar. |
| Random Resurrection | Randomly brings an amount of clan mates back to life, depending on your clan citadel tier. |
| Protector | A percentage of damage that would have been taken in combat is instead redirected to the avatar. This combat must have taken place within range of the avatar. |
