So today I turned 21 (this topic isn't about that, so no "Happy Birthday" posts needed lol), which I know for many is a day that they look up to for one reason or another. While 18 marks you legally as an adult, most don't really feel that until 21, when they are legally able to drink, conceal carry, and other things of course (those first two apply specifically to the U.S.).

So I was wondering, what aspirations do/did you have for turning 21?

Personally, I'm a simple guy. I'm a Christian and come from a Christian family, so I've always been perfectly content without big parties or drinking (keep in mind, I don't condemn drinking, and my dad even microbrews, I just don't have a taste for it and don't really have a motivation to generate one). Thus, while I know most around look up to this day for the ability to drink legally, that hasn't really been a big deal to me. For me, it's been to get my conceal carry license. I'm very much a proponent of second amendment rights (for foreigners, that's the right to carry firearms), and Florida is a conceal carry license state, so I've been looking forward to and waiting for this day pretty much just for that Going out to pick out a basic price-friendly 9mm handgun, and hopefully get my license by Saturday.

I'm 23 so quite past the 21 age myself. honestly 21 did not mean much to me. the best part of it is that I can go into bars now.... which I only do to hang out with friends or listen to bands. I can go to concerts that are 21+ and if I wanted to I could be a bartender. I don't drink either so that had no meaning to me.

21 really wasn't a special day to me... 18 was more special than 21. 24 is gonna be epic for 1 major reason... I can claim myself as independent on my college aid forms. that means more money for me and also more tax benefits.

I added to the topic question that if not 21, say what year was most significant and why. That does sound like somewhere worth celebrating though

18 and 21 were both my favorites, but mostly because at 18 a couple of my friends planned a party for me, and no one had ever done that for me and it was amazingly thoughtful The reason 21 was so good aside guns is that my best friend/girlfriend planned this whole elaborate scavenger hunt for me to do, filled with thoughtful notes and gifts and prizes. It made my day by far

I'm currently 23 years old. I don't really care so much about birthdays and I also don't drink alcohol. Just never have and I'm not just gonna start to be a part of a group. So really not a special day for me at all

drinking was the best part of turning 21 for me i mean honestly i dont drink everyday but when i do go to a bar once a week or so i drink hard because i enjoy it

Just like you, I'm not interested in alcohol consumption. But when I turned 21, I had my first beer with my dad, and a couple more with friends the same day. Just to mark the milestone, I suppose.

Turning 21 didn't really change a whole lot for me, but I did get good birthday presents, some of which I can't mention on the forums.

Age is just a number. It doesn't matter how old you are, just how old you act. That can be a good or a bad thing. XD

Well I've been learning C++ and hopefully by the age of 21 (2 years from now), I would have mastered that, Directx, and Unreal Engine 4. I have a gaming company I want to start and the sooner the better.

Ah yes, guns... the only reason I look forward to being 21.

I'm mostly looking forward to 20. Just for the feeling of achievement for surviving two decades.

Guess the only "benefit" of turning 21 would be able to go into the bars. But I don't drink frequently so it's not a "big" benefit. We can conceal carry in my state at 18 (woohoo) so I didn't have to wait for that.

So the only thing I am really wanting to be 21 for is for public service, which is either law enforcement or fire fighting, EMT (getting my license this year) you have to be 18.

Well I've had alcohol (legally, mind you) before 21, I've just never had a taste for it. I know they are all different, but meh.

Yes, the only restriction is you can't carry at schools / airports and you have to be 21 to purchase a handgun from a dealer, but you can legally carry / own one at 18, so you just have to have someone buy it for you (and that person has to believe that you are not going to do something unreasonable with it), kind of silly but oh well.

That's the impression I was getting too lol, interesting. My brother gave me a taste of some of his stuff today, still tasted bleh to me. I know it's an acquired taste, but I don't have a reason to really want to

Yeah, the Gun-Free School Zones Act defines certain areas that are off limits in virtually all cases, including schools, airports, courthouses, and etc. I envy you though; much prefer open carry since it makes sense and makes things alot less legally complicated in some ways.

Meh, open carry creates more problems usually. We recently (6 months ago?) had someone open carry at our zoo and people started freaking out, cops were called and asked him to just cover up but he started making a scene and in the end was escorted out. Legally he's able to open carry, but using common sense (and not causing a disturbance) when you're at the zoo with your two year old it's not really necessary to do so. Florida (and all states) should allow open carry (I'll stay covered though ), but people should also use common sense when doing so. I'm waiting for the National Right to Carry Act to pass, hopefully this year (if it ever does), then you don't have to worry about which states you travel to.

Reading through this topic makes me realise how chavvy/trashy my area is. I once passed out in the local park in the middle of winter due to alcohol, but I don't drink much nowadays.

I'm looking forward to being 17 so I can drive, and being 18 so I can get into clubs and stuff without needing a fake ID, or trying to look 18 when I've got a baby face.
Not sure if you can do much special at 21, here. Main one is 18 for us!
