The Golden Katana was rewarded to a very select few players in Runescape, much like the Golden Scythe, however after speaking to one of the owners, he was told to keep quiet by a JMod as to how he actually obtained it.

So far, theories put forward as to how this item was rewards;

~ 10 Year Veteran Reward (dismissed)

~ 3k Membership days (Plausible)

~ Failed 90 Day membership card

The third reason is one of which most people have come forward with who own it, which doesn't make sense because Jagex should have just credited them with Flaming Skull just like everyone else.

Some theories I have come up with:

~ Rewarded for being unable to obtain any vanity items upto date

~ Membership Card raffle, in which lucky membership codes rewarded this.

Opinions? No-one knows yet how or why this item was rewarded.

It might be some sort of raffle, but why keep it such a secret? Tbh releasing items to a few select stores in a limited amount of countries is not fair towards others. We don't pick what country we live in or what payments options are available.

Well the Jmod response is as clear as mud

Perhaps they are short of stock of the skulls and the katanas that were sat in a box at Jagex HQ were used as a type of IOU.

No mention of a Golden Katana, although it has that "very exclusive" feel to it. I'm chasing it up on the Billing Support. I may have found out how to get one.

I was wondering if that email was legit. I did get membership through that offer last time and if it's a legit mail I'll do it again.
My first thought was that it was legit, just waiting for a second opinion.

I always use my debit card for membership because no point buying membership cards unless if I needed too but i used to use my mum debit card always and she sometimes got angry because I didn't tell her lol

I believe it was in a raffle. I doubt it was for a failed 90 membership card because I don't know why it would fail.
