Hello there.

As you know, when you receive a PM in the forums, you normally receive an accompanying email that tells you that you've been PM'd unless you've turned it off. Today in my emails, I found what look to be phishing attempt on my RuneHQ forum account.

Ok, firstly it was in Russian, after translating it, it was some scam a about visiting a university there. Secondly, did anyone catch the phishing link at the bottom?

I think we need to remain even more vigilant as the hackers are targeting fansites now, especially if you're Fansite Staff.

My fiancee got one of those too, she recognized it as a phishing attempt, still weird to see one of those though .

If you do fall for one, and no one is perfect, just make sure you scan your computer directly afterwards and clear your cache. Its better not to fall for it, of course.

I just always ignore any message like that tbh, I hate when I get them. Thanks for the heads up.

If you look at the From section of the message, you can tell it's fake. The message identifies itself from Invision Power Board, which is the software we use, but it is not what a legitimate RuneHQ PM will contain in that section. It's a serious reminder that we're going to have to remain vigilant and proactive to protect ourselves from being phished.
