Give me reasons to NOT ban mob grinding.
It give decent xp for the player who made the mob grinder. Mob grinders can take a long time to build and require some knowledge on how to make it. At the end, it's very rewarding.
Of course, it give an advantage to the player but it doesn't stop the others to make one too.
In all survival worlds, the beginning is the most difficult part to pass through because you will run out of hunger very fast, don't have a lot of items, etc. As time passes, our stocks will increase/equipments will upgrade, It also means, life in Minecraft will be easier.
So I don't think mob grinders will affect the survival type in the late game. Also, grinding xp with a monster spawner and killing monsters/mining coals for xp have both something in common: they are boring (in my opinion). The only difference is that the mob grinders require you less time playing the game since you will probably afk.

Give me reasons to NOT ban mob grinding.
It can be used to make lots of food.
Yes, but I could also make a 100-block long line of melons that have very a fast growth rate. An infinite and fast food source that only requires a single seed to start.
They could get a ridiculous amount of easy experience and enchant things.
1. Weapon enchantment. They can kill monsters a bit easier. But then again, with the grinder, what's the need to kill mobs en masse anyways?
2. Armour enchantments. Yeah right. xD
3. Tool enchantments. Specifically, pickaxes. MineCraft is HUGE. Some might even say infinite. What does it hurt if somone's pickaxe lasts a bit longer than others, or it can mine slightly faster than normal, or cause double drops of diamond so you can make more diamond pickaxes to mine for more diamonds so you can make more pickaxes. I made a single room 30x30x20. It took me a week to mine it out. So I don't think that, even with enchanted tools, anyone could mine enough of an area to actually make it harder for other (newer) players to collect stuff, unless that person only lives 5 blocks away.
So... yeah. Reasons.

Given all that, I really don't see any need to ban grinders. They're feats of engineering, and it's not going to be every game that we find a spawner on the first day (which I suspect is a good part of the reason we're having this discussion). That was just a fluke.

Compare a mob grinder to a diamond pickaxe: why do people make diamond pickaxes? To make the game easier by being able to mine faster. Why do people make mod grinders? To make the game easier by being able to kill mobs faster.
What do you have to do in order to make a diamond pickaxe? Find diamonds, which can be quite difficult when first starting out, although you can get lucky and find a pyramid with 4 diamonds in it on the first day. What do you have to do in order to make a mob grinder? Find a spawner, which can take some time, although you can get lucky and find one right under your house on the first day.
Who is able to make diamond pickaxes? Anyone, as long as you take the effort to find the diamonds, there is no limitation. Who is able to make a mob grinder? Anyone, as long as you take the effort to find a spawner and build the grinder.
So, in conclusion, mob grinders are a feature in the game; if they were some sort of unfair advantage, the developers would have debunked them long ago. If you ban grinders, you may as well ban diamond tools as well.

Sorry McSwindler. Guess you'll just have to tone down your awesomeness at mining so the rest of us can catch up to you in our mining expeditions! Can't have you hoarding all the diamonds now, can we?
